Man, this started off like it could've been great, but so quickly shat the bed

Man, this started off like it could've been great, but so quickly shat the bed.

It was never that great to begin with. Just that the author knew how to build up hype and nothing else. All style with no substance and now with the massive rushjob, you see it has turned to complete shit.

Does the author even make any money on it? He seems that he wants to end it as soon as possible.

He doesn't want to end it but the publisher does. Sales are low and the tv series got cancelled. Honestly they are trying to move this along and replace it with another series.

And yes he does make money off it.

If it's successful, why would the publisher want to end it?

Just because I think it turned terrible really fast doesn't mean it doesn't sell, right?

Yes user.
Some mangaka survive selling 20k copies per volume.
Anything on WSJ is lucrative, even the shit they cancel can sell 50k copies. Toriko is selling 200k.

So, then why are they pushing to cancel it if it's so profitable?

That's a dumb. Way too dumb to be asked in a 18+ board.
Why a manga on WSJ less profitable than the WSJ standards would be axed?

Is that less profitable than average? What's average if 200k is below?

200k is not below, but the series is quickly dropping in popularity, so soon it won't be enough for WSJ anymore.
If Toriko was published for 1 more year it would probably drop to about 120k sales. In less than 2 years it would be less popular than the average battle shonen newcomer.

I still think it has great world building and some pretty cool parts and monsters, everything else is just fucked though. Also I've never seen a long running series spiral out of control this hard.
It was already ridiculous when they fought the four-beast but everything there after has become visualized ramblings of mad kindergardeners indulging in powerlevel discussions.

Catching up and am on chapter 346, the whole thing's a mess. That chapter especially felt like it skimmed past way too much bullshit while also repeating stuff over and over.

I read about 80 chapters, what's so bad about it?

No waifus, so nobody on Sup Forums gives a shit about it, it's doing ok otherwise, not great but not bad either.

Still better and more entertaining than Bleach

Its 2016 m8, even if its bad still being the best shonen out there.

It's so bad it's good, kinda like Gantz.

This statement doesn't make sense

How is that so? You rather to watch Boruto, nanatsu, Fairy tail, bleach, etc b4 Toriko???

You literally just named all shit series. I rather not read any of them.
>Boruto
is just a rehash of the movie and from the beginning part it already seems like some BS is about to be pulled. So no thanks I dropped it after the first chapter .

>Nanatsu
It's been just power levels. It has no actual goals or end game and just makes them up as the series goes along. Plus the whole " that wasn't my full power" shit got old fairly quickly

>FT
Friendship power ups and Ezra asspulls enough said

>bleach
It fell down in the ranking for a reason

And toriko is just for action junkies and hype beast. The whole "food coursing through my body power up" shit got annoying as well. The end game villian seems worst then kaguya.

There's better shonen user

I just named the actual most common shonens right now... Thats why i said Toriko is the best shonen atm.

At first I thought it might be interesting, but there's just too much stuff bothering me.

like
-the scale of things. Hey this restaurant/hotel/casino/insert-anything is bigger than the entire landmass of China or some retarded shit. Or this snake is so huge it goes all the way round the equator. At times it's like a grade school kid wrote this.
-having to put "Gourmet" in front of everything is just silly
-the fights are just boring. It's sad when the best fight (imho) was actually a gambling match.
-too many characters are introduced as important and never shown again afterwards.

It's really good and very obviously a parody of the shonen genre, only it does so completely earnestly. It feels like a so-bad-its-good B movie and there's nothing wrong with that.

Rather than go over why it's actually good and if you dislike it you're an idiot, I'd like to constructively ask what you'd change about it because it's not perfect.

Regarding scale

>takes them months to cross some amalgamation of deserts the size of Africa.
>Each continent in Gourmetworld is said to be bigger than the human world which is bigger than our earth.
>They bring the full course together within a few weeks.
>???

I still read it but it went full retard long ago and it's only getting worse and worse.

Nothing, It's pretty good.

kys if serious

>forgettting One Piece

I love Toriko

Toriko is much better than One Piece. One Piece was good and very interesting in the early 2000s but now? Arcs have become just as bloated as Bleach or Naruto and the appeal where every character gets to do something has been rapidly scaled back to the point where nearly half of the main cast just weren't written for two fucking years. Characters have had depth removed. Usopp barely develops beyond power upgrades. Zoro is just the thing that counters the enemy's Sword Guy. The final villain and final arc has been set in stone by now to the point where it's difficult to care about the villains between then and now, and it looks like there's another decade left.

Toriko definitely got cancelled and it's going to be over by the end of the year, but it had a great run and poked fun at the genre. Also it's really gay.

>current year

its a damn shame

>the best selling manga of all time isnt shonen
When did this happen, plus you can still read BnHA and WT

You point out all things but don't mention that Toriko falls flat in all of them too, sometimes for other reasons sometimes for the same.

A bloated cast with little to no development, besides a ridiculous powercreep that is hard to even comprehent anymore.

Arcs have become so short that they would be better of not existing at all. Just look at the current mess, sure it's because the series got axed but just compare the 10 or so chapters dealing with the 4-beast to how 70% of the Full course got aquired of panel within ~6 chapters.

A trillion of villians left and right have just been reduced to fodder including the almighty blue Nitro, for some bloated pustule fused with some old dude whose backstory did anything but mark him as the main villian.

>Ezra ass

STOP RIGHT THERE and you are 100% correct.

Dayum, that ass is in my dreams now.

I don't know if this is a new meme or bait but either way you're in a very small minority group with this belief.

You claim oda scaled down where every character gets something to the point half the crew went missing for two years but you failed to mention how oda is now putting them in the spot light. And you forgot to add that he also introduced the SH GF.

You say the villain is set in stone so tell me who the final villian is? also this . The whole series fell off and that's why it's been cancelled. the mangaka Just started to throw unbelievable power levels and absurd shut around definitely now towards the end. Seeing God wasn't even impressive and actually more of a let down.

its like keeping a taco stand open on prime real estate know for selling really fancy food. Gotta make room for something thatll sell even more. loyalty doesnt save the manga industry

The magazine rankings are what matters and Toriko has been at the bottom for several months.
They're probably abandoning the series because it couldn't live up to their retarded hype (they wanted it to sell one piece and dragonball level).

When did it get bad even? I'm right around the point with the mother snake introduction and it's been fine so far.

Didn't the author just take the "Gourmet Hunter" concept from HxH and make a whole manga out of it?

I wanna fuck this whore

>If it's successful, why would the publisher want to end it?

Jump is super competitive.

imho after the Casino arc
the cooking tournament is where it went meh.
Half the fights there were left unresolved until the characters showed up again much later

Scale of thing have alway bother me.
>His knocking is so strong he stop the earth.

The power levels and the way they increase in this series are absurd. Putting a numerical level to anything like this is always a bad idea, there's a reason DBZ abandoned it.

>The magazine rankings are what matters
Bleach and Kochikame say otherwise

The funny thing is that im enjoying this las arc's wild ride. I wanna see how this shit comes to a close

I'm disapointed that she hasn't had much screentime or really done much at all. She and Toriko get engaged yet she doesn't accompany them to the Gourmet World? This whole series is a huge sausage fest.

Remember when Jump was trying to push this as the next big thing? Constantly promoting it, putting it front and center on covers, tons of color pages, a crossover with One Piece AND Dragon Ball...
