Yama has been proven to have a soft heart that grew since the yhwach fight 1k years ago. Take his fight with wonderweiss. he said ' im glad you no longer resemble a child , i can kill you without regret now'. Massive foreshadowing. Also what he said to/of Ayon ' a creature that exists only to take life? pathetic'. I think he battered yhwach into a baby and then couldnt finish him off. mayuri has something to do with it. at the start of this arc look at the hate on mayuris face when he shittalks yama. stranger still he gets away with doing it. mayuris words were 'thats incorrect CC, this happened because 1000years ago you COULDNT kill that man.' he couldnt bring himself to slaughter a baby. also note who is saying this to yama - mayuri whose theme is BABIES AND BIRTH.

The Vizards were such wasted potential. Not only has Shinji barely fought but we've only seen him fight one person with his mask and it was just to ward off an already injured Grimmjow.

I don't think any of the Vizard even used their masks/Bankai in conjunction.
