I've watched 9 episodes of this and it's literally the most generic shit I've ever seen, yet I hear it get so much praise.
Does it get any better or should I just drop it now?

If you don't like something, drop it. The fanbase doesn't need any more retards anyway.

Drop it. It's nowhere near as good as its dickriders claim it to be.

It's basically the fedora tipper's shounenshit.

I felt the same way. Nearly dropped it on the 6th ep. Start is really generic but it becomes so good later on. Keep watching.

back to

Read the manga.

Naruto is honestly better. And Naruto isn't even that good.

just wait until the Chimera Ant arc

Don't watch it, just kill yourself instead.

Drop it. Watch the '99 version instead.

Drop it, then pick it up again years later like the shitty writer

overrated desu

Not even close, narutard.

I've been wondering, is the super generic start intentional? I don't think Togashi is some kind of genius like many, but it's kinda odd how normal it starts.

I tried to read the manga and it actually got worse after the first arc

just the dumbest shit ever

I don't care what you do as long as you just leave.

Possibly, something like Gon san is a different take on 'generic' MC traits so it needed to be played straight for a while. But the more fucked up elements are there from the start, 2011 just makes it less obvious with how cheery and bright it is.

>dude gore lmao its not for kids i swear

Gore does actually stop media being for kids most of the time, that's why ratings exist. Not that it matters, just because something is for adults doesn't necessarily mean it's mature, and just because something is for children doesn't mean it's childish.

i watched it for the cute boys

It starts generic then shifts to edgy.

If we're ignoring all the filler, I agree.

But only if we're ignoring all the filler.

It's been awhile since i watched it but, for the anime, from best to worst, the arcs go:
Chimera Ant > Yorknew City > The Hunter Exams > the battle tower > the furry president debate >>>>>> greed island

...

i didnt mean to quote no.143045320
my bad

...

>Greed Island
What the fuck was he thinking when he made this retarded game card system

Please drop it. We don't need impatient.

Realistically the least 'child friendly' part of recent chapters is how text heavy and complex things are getting. Even adults had trouble with following Chrollo's abilties and keeping track of all the different parties involved with the DC. And this guy, I suppose.

Because Togashi is a fucking NEET that only plays fucking videogames.

This was the panel which convinced me to read this manga.

Read the manga

He wasnt. It was clearly just a macguffin because he had no ideas. The whole arc is a complete waste, the only purpose it serves is to link into Chimaera ant. Its even worse in that it was totally wishy-washy about that whole card game gimmick in that the card collecting is completely hand-waived near the end. I thought the whole arc was going to be about collecting the cards, such wasted potential for a concept that should have just been a new IP anyway.

>drop it now
It gets praise because of Stockholm Syndrome. Once people have committed themselves to several hundred episodes they feel the need to justify that they haven't wasted their time.

Several hundred? If only.

wrongeverytime.com/2014/08/04/imperfect-beings-hunter-x-hunter-and-the-chimera-ant/
Im guessing this is a product of stockholm syndrome?

It will be several hundred once the next Hunter x Hunter anime starts in 2030.

148, whatever. Anything over 4-5 cours tends to have the same problem.

>several hundred episodes
So you haven't actually watched it? What a surprise.

It's the same with all other weekly jump garbage. Groups of poeple who read that shit exclusively flood this board and fill it with their cancer.

Not necessarily, but I could write a similar quality essay about, for example, Elfen Lied if I tried. It's not hard to find interesting commentaries on aspects of humanity in shows when you look had enough for them, and it's easy to take small details and transform them into your own more interesting conclusions. It could be that that essay was just well written and that the author of it was reading too far into a generic shounen arc.

That was clearly an essay for HxH fans though btw - it spoiled key aspects of the plot.

Is it possible for there to be a more unlikable character?

OP this show has 148 episodes you have to at least get to the Yorknew arc before making any kind of judgement imo.

Battle tower arc is pretty weak until a certain fight.

Because all the royal guards couldn't be bros. There had to be one faglord.

dunno, saw the 2011 anime and the clown guy is fucking awesome, but by the end the chimera arc is just awful.
come on, the big bad guy is a fucking mix of frezah and cell
Gon going full super saiyan
Killua reminds me of Saske faggot, but cooler, dunno, good characters but the arcs are pretty mediocre and the writer steals a lot of stuff from others
>muh homage
no, fuck it, this shit is overrated

It's not just a homage, it's a blatant, intentional subversion. It's beyond me how someone could be so unobservant to not recognize the obvious differences between Gon's powerup and going super saiyan. For example, the fact that it was entirely a one sided massacre and a near suicide attempt on Gon's part that makes the audience feel depressed rather than hype, and makes Gon look terrible instead of heroic. Or the difference between Cell and Meruem, like the fact that Meruem got actual character development via romance and boardgames, never even met the MC and was killed by a fucking bomb.

But god forbid you have to actually think about it instead of just relying on your knee jerk reactions to make a judgement, right?

Don't like it? Drop it.
Simple.

It isnt that he's a total bitch
it isnt that he's a annoying drama queen
it even isnt his gay little mini-form

Its that he lies to the meruem, over and over, even after he explicitly told that lying is pointless because meruem can just read his true intentions anyway.

Dunno OP, I started getting addicted since Trick Tower.
Anyway, it was ages ago and the anime you are watching didn't even exist.

oh god, it's like BvS all over again!
you really think this shitty manga is so deep?
you deserve the purgatory you are in fags, the guy will die before finishing the series.

its a shonen for people who have read a lot of shonens already. Thats why its clever

You didn't like the President arc?

Go watch Bleach.

>clever
>shonen

It's not deep, what I just explained should be obvious to even the children the series is published for. Somehow you missed it, but that just makes you retarded.

good lord no, Bleach is easily one of my most hated animes. I hated it so much it made me hate anime for a few years.

I didnt hate the president arc, i just thought it was a little silly that after all the emotional gloom of the chimera ant arc, we get this club of literal furfags debating amongst each other.

This, I can't fucking comprehend how are you missing this shit.

It's a blatant copy, but for you is "intentional subversion".
please, i thought this serie was just dumb but reading that someone out there thinks that it has any deep meaning or subplot instead of ripping off every fucking shonen out there is just hilarious.

Omg why do you want this stuff to be deep? Do you really enjoy the pretentious stuff that fake-intellectual people pretend to enjoy?

>spergs out on the sight of a "furfag"

I guess autism can ruin even the best of things, only Cheadle and the Horse got facial reconstruction.

You are reading it on an incredibly superficial level and are being obtuse about the most simple, easy to understand things. All you need is a functional emotional IQ and you should be able to comprehend what I'm saying, because it's not deep.

The audience sees Goku go super saiyan, and it makes them feel good because it makes Goku look good. They see Gon go Gon-san, and it makes them feel bad because it makes Gon look bad. Is that 'deep meaning' to you? Did you experience the exact same feeling during both scenes, or were you too distracted by the fact that Gon-san had long hair and is therefore a 'blatant copy'?

>uses the term "intentional subversion" to defend this generic shonen
>fake-intellectual

>this fucking thread
Please, stop making HxH threads. Drop it, watch it, read it, like it, hate it, I don't care. Just stop, unless there is a new chapter. Otherwise, it's just another shitposting general.

Im not "sperging out" you memer. I was just making a joke

You are the only retard who thinks the word subversion is synonymous with deep. Maybe a subverted trope is deep or intellectual to you, but it's just a simple aspect of the series for people who aren't brain dead. Subverting a trope isn't hard in itself.

It's never going to happen, retards keep making hxh threads 24/7

There's going to be threads like this for a while now it's airing on Toonami, dumbass crossboarder dubfags have no patience. Every week the # of episodes in the phrase "I've watched X episodes of this, when does it get good??" will go up by one.

i am not saying that is deep, i am saying that because it made you feel something you are forgiving the blatant ripoffs, using terms like "subverted trope" to masquerade the uninspired homage.
HunterXhunter is a generic shonen, it does everything by the book and the first part is promising, by the chimera arc just goes full retard.
>muh feels
fuck off, you can't argue quality from your feelings you faggot

>baww there are similarities between some aspects of two series, therefore the major differences in their execution, intentions and overall effect don't mean anything

>it's airing on Toonami
oh snap, i'm out of the loop
>killua's englsh voice
its shit

This. Really picked up for me between ep 15-20

there are a few parts which are good, but it's extremely painful to get there.

pacing is especially bad in ant arc for example.

and that stupid fucking narrator

the hype scenes were super hype because of the build up

GI was created to be a nen shared by 11 people.
GI masters can use GI Special cards in the real world.

The first three arcs was pretty generic but well done and short, the fourth was a nice change and really good, the fifth sounds generic as fuck but was actually done pretty well and subverted a fair amount of the expected tropes. The sixth arc was God tier despite all the fucking hiatuses and is one of the best arcs you'll find in a shonen series. The seventh arc was short but decent and the current arc is off to a really good start. Keep in mind I actually haven't watched the 2011 anime yet so I don't know how they've paced it. It's probablyway better in the manga and I can imagine spending 24 minutes to get through one or two chapters plus filler is a good way to get bored if you were expecting it to be great off the bat. People should really temper how they praise the series, since the start isn't bad by any means but still rather generic before Nen gets introduced and starts to get some creative uses. And although it has powerlevel shittery it's far more tame than the majority of other anime and rather than getting powerups in the sixth arc the insane power creep is actually used as a reason to not fight the main villain since no one ever could ever stand a chance against it so it becomes more of a suspense kind of story since you can't just willpower your way to victory and the main characters have to grow up fast.

It's a good series but it takes a while to hit it's stride so if you're really not enjoying it then you can probably drop it.

Dropped after 3 episodes thinking it was some trash.

I came back a year later and now I've watched 1999,2011 and read the manga.

Or, you know, the arc in question is a direct commentary on human nature and you would know this if you actually read/watched it.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Yeah it only picks ups after about 100 episodes

1999 > 2011

That's because you have watched the 2011 version of the anime.

2011= Moeshit (look at those fukion design)

1999= Manime

>implying yorknew city isn't the worst arc

it's good, the start is just generic. The rest of it deviates from most of the tropes.
