No of course not. The only anime from my 3x3 he consistently posts is Urusei Yatsura. Does he have a monopoly on color or something?

The slow pace middle way through and some really uninteresting characters. I felt like Johan wasn't really explored enough too. Anyway, the anime started pretty good, but turned out to be something that's not really my cup of tea due to the arguably excessive length and some turns the story took.

Huh, for some reason my post got deleted.

lmao what a pleb XD

mods are autistic

They can't have ya advertising YouTube content

I see. I would argue that Johan is very well developed and is arguably one of the best characters in anime. It's just that through 74 episodes, it's hard to remember most of the details.

>It's just that through 74 episodes, it's hard to remember most of the details.
fucking this, Monster cntains a lot of key details that anybody might miss some, you just gotta give it a rewatch and pay attention, i garantee that you will enjoy and appreciate it even more, and understand more things.

Exactly. One of the things people never figure out is the rooftop game Johan makes children play out. Go on a rooftop with someone, stare at each other and if you make the other person fall, you win. And by winning you see the world differently, more beautiful. And if you fall and survive, you still see it beautifully. This fall is actually Johan getting shot the first time. He was bored of life, got shot, survived and saw the world differently.
This rooftop walk is essentially what he does the entire story. You'll also notice that when Johan is himself on the rooftop, talking to the billionaire's son, he walks slowly and carefully. This is how he also conducts all his schemes. One step at a time, with precision and perfection.
This is personally what I call fighting fate. He gets other people to try and stop him by doing literally as little as possible, then gets away by doing nothing and pointing his finger on his forehead, taunting and telling everyone where to shoot to actually kill him.

Urasawa once stated in an interview that Johan was his most developed and written character he's ever done, and it shows. There's just so much mystery around Johan and so many episodes that people don't pick up the clues.

Interesting. I'll give Monster another try.

What is top, right film? Tess?

Doremi, like CCS, is something you watch slowly, when you feel like it. Like a cooling down relaxing time. It's very childlike and it honestly made me feel like a child again.

Yamato's great.

That's right, how i also view that rooftop game is to find out if he is really worth living, if he has something to convey to this world he surely will survive, Johan's personnality is so twisted and fascinating to analyze.
Also i was imperesed how i understood his manipulative skills, like this moment with Richard was just amazing, we are spent like 4 episodes with Richard that seems at first irrelevant story about a random guy who's after Johan, which ends up being an exploration of Richard's personnality and a build up to the rooftop scene, that's insane

How is Synecdoche NY ? is it that great as people talk about it?

It's also worth noting that Johan doesn't feel he has a place in the world worth existing. Johan always reveals himself when he's talking to children. In one part, when talking to a child he convinces to go to the Red Light District, he asks the child what he's waiting for and tells him that there's no one waiting for him, then wonders if he's worth existing. That's really a fucked up thing to ask a child, but I view it as Johan asking himself that question. Why is he alive? What's his purpose?
Johan had no purpose in life. He just continually got people to search for him so that they might kill him. All while he does as little as possible to avoid being killed and escaping.

When Johan finds that childhood book, he starts screaming and passes out. That's when Johan got his memories back and what happened to his mother. This realization is what gives him a newfound purpose in life. But the problem is that Johan knows that once he completes it, he'll be void again.
So what he does is that he sets up this elaborate suicide pact. Gets an entire village to kill themselves, plans everything and ends up in a scenario where he will absolutely die.
I call this the reverse rooftop. Johan purposefully corners himself with no possible alternative and way out. He points a gun at a child's face and forces Tenma to shoot him.

Everything, to that point, has been within Johan's calculation and he will assuredly die. However, something happens. Fate intervenes.
At chance, the boy Johan took hostage happened to be walking by and saw his boy in danger and shoots Johan. This freak occurance makes Tenma not shoot him and ends up saving his life.

And it all comes full circle. Tenma shows that he's true to his moral to protect anyone he comes across, even people undeserving of living, and Johan survives. Something outside of fate saved his life, when he fucked around with people, testing their fate and surviving by planning everything.

Absolutely. It's hilarious and everything about it makes me realize how I hate life itself but how it's also hilarious. It's postmodern story about lacking communication without anyone understanding you.

The realization isn't that we're alone in life and that we'll die alone, but that we're alone, we can't properly understand anyone else and that no one else can understand you. Nihilism of the highest order. And I love it.

You'll likely have to watch it 4-5 times before getting it. Every time I watch it, I find something new. People find it peachy but I just find that it's because people just don't actually understand it.

>a song about searching for your waifu and being happy when you finally find her

Great analysis boys, how do you interpret the end?

Will definitely watch it then, Thanks user

The centering is shit, but I decided to toss this together as a whim. I'll make a specific VN/anime/manga list later. As well as probably get better quality images and center it better.

Johan is a huge liar. Relating to the whole rooftop game, Johan tries to get people to kill him, but to get people to try and understand him. If you can understand the upbringing of the Monster, you can somewhat understand him and possibly forgive him. Something like ''oh, he's just a victim of circumstances, he had a bad childhood'' etc. At first, we're shown that he was brought up in 511 and it might be what broke him. But we find out that he's the one that corrupted everyone. Then we find out about the Rose Mansion massacre. But it wasn't him who was there, it was his sister.
Every scenario shows that it's 'something else' that screwed him.
One point of interest is the whole 'Help me, help me, the monster inside of me is growing'. Psychopath, according to the psychologist, love to play mind games and fuck people with false examples of what's wrong with them, when most know exactly what's wrong with them.

This is the ending. At the end, Tenma finds Johan's mother and he forgives him. But Johan reveals a finale secret. He was never born evil, his mother had to make an impossible choice and it's *that* event that broke him. Tenma, thrown with that unsure realization, breaks down. Was Johan actually born evil or did this bullshit event make him evil?
For me, like everything else, from 511 -> Rose Mansion -> his mother, it's all bullshit. He gave that reason to fuck with Tenma so that he might escape.

The final shot of Johan is of him escaping to get more people to find and kill him. That small amount of doubt was to possibly get Tenma to continue the cat and mouse game.

Didn't notice this the first time but I gotta give this shit some credit

Oh yeah, Ayakashibito. Hopefully it doesn't crash on you this time

Anyone know where to get that template?

That's the one. The overall story seemed interesting.

The only problem I had with the small amount I read is that the writing felt amateurish.

Yeah the story was great, the girls were cute and the action was awesome, I really loved reading it. Reminded me of Fate, but even better I'd say.

The same author wrote a Fate series, Fate/Apocrypha. Apparently it sucked though.
