There are already people in STRAYA who are being fired from their jobs just for saying that they voted no. While similar things are happening in Canada, we at least have some protection from this shit. The whole "hate speech vs free speech" debate is still going on, so there's a bit of leeway. There's a very strong attitude of hate towards anyone who would even dare vote no in this matter. They don't have the first amendment over there. A lot of people are bringing into focus the fact that you can be attacked on the street for simply wearing a "Vote No" badge, and everyone is just fine with that, including the police. The media down under is trying to shove down your throat the idea that "IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH THIS, YOU ARE A HOMOPHOBIC BIGOT WHO BELONGS IN PRISON". And what's really scary is that we're seeing no guarantees from the government that people will be protected in their right to say that they disagree with same-sex marriage. They've even gone so far as to make it part of the class curriculum for 11 year olds to pretend they're in a same-sex relationship, and the students face academic punishment if their parents don't want them to take part in it. That's some fucked up shit!
