The animated bits were, the CG had choppy framerate and they had to slow it down during certain scenes as to try to cover up that fact. That's why it sold like shit in Japan, nobody liked it. So instead of doing what people asked, they decided to throw away the decent drawn bits and just use CG for most of it, which was the biggest problem the audience had with the adaptation. This will sell poorly as well, especially with all the stuff they changed just in episode 1.

Because of budget constraints but they were so well drawn and overall it added to the atmosphere of the show. The Berserk 97 adaption is the Nier of anime.

Aside from the amazing soundtrack the old anime is mostly garbage. Most of the episodes look like absolute shit in motion. I love Berserk to death, and the first anime is my first exposure to the series, but you motherfuckers are talking out of your asses when you say the old anime is worth watching. I say just download the ost and read the manga.

The studio knows that she was drawn darker than most characters and medieval Europe had SOME darker people too like Mediterraneans, Kushans (I think), even Moors (though that wasn't til a little later and they were invaders)
