Heidi - Arupusu no shōjo Haiji

Who else watched or remembers it? I saw it four or five times while growing up since it was broadcasted non stop in my country. I really like it and I still remember most of the episodes.

I remember watching this as a child as well - didn't even realize until way later that the German version wasn't the original.

Same here, I realised it was an anime years later.

As a suissujin, I find the French synchronization was a lot better than the German dubbing.

One my favorite show when i was a kid, didnt know it was anime really surprised me.

I watched the show when I was a kid. But now that I think about Heidi life is pure suffering specially for someone so young.

Watched two years ago and wasn't prepared for that hellish Frankfurt Arc. Anime back then wasn't for the faint of heart.

Here in Italy everyone and their grandmothers watched it a dozen of times.

I'm pretty sure the entire world watched Heidi a dozen times in their life.

I don't think burgers did.
Before DBZ and Pokemon, anime were heavily broadcasted outside of Japan only in Europe and South America.

I think only Americans never heard about it.

>Heidi
>Candy
>Marco
>Remi
Why couldn't these faggot kids have happy lives? Watching Chinese cartoons was suffering back then

Those are small time.
Try fucking Lovely Sara.

I remember watching the italian version as a kid, along with candy
I can still remember the melody of the intro

That reminds me that they tuned down the suffering in the remake but they keep Heidi constant crying making her like a crybaby in the process.

Princess Sara is bad, because Sara acts like a saint. A fucking retarded saint who never defends herself even against attempts of murder. And in the end everything is forgiven when the majority of the cast should be put in jail. Victorian England was so fucked up.
From all those "suffering" anime Princess Sara was the worse for me.

Even if she wasn't a saint her life wouldn't have been better anyway.
But yeah when at the end she even gives Miss Minci money and makes friend with Lavinia I was livid. It's not like they learned anything.

>Heidi
>suffering
I don't get it.

I can confirm but it's an European thing, I think only burgers didn't see it.
Now that I think about it being Heidi was pure suffering, damn. I think I cried when she had to left her granpa the first time I saw it.

When her aunt took her to Frankfurt man
Also, not exactly suffering but when I was a kid the episode with Peter's family always made me sad, blind grandma just wanted to eat soft bread bruh

I actually used to watch it with my grandma, comfy as fuck.

I mean she's not happy at Frankfurt, but she makes friends with Clara, her dad and grandma adore Heidi and even miss Rottermeier is not a bad person.
Then I guess there are the episodes about Clara's rehabilitation that are a bit intense, but for the rest her life is pure bliss.
Compared to the life of the average Meisaku protagonist that's nothing.

I never watched it,but my mom said she watched this as a kid.

How underage are you?

This used to air in my country when I was a kid but I didn't watch it; thinking it was for chicks
Though I did watch an anime adaptation of Snow White which started after this stopped airing on the TV channel

I smell underage. Now go watch it.

I am 19 turning 20 in less then 2 months, my mom is 43 if you are curious.

>thinking it was for chicks
This applied to 75% of the stuff that was aired, eventually I gave in and started watch everything. I could have watched The Rose of Versailles a couple years earlier.

While it's true she didn't got it as bad, she was taken to Frankfurt against her will and the scene when she realized she wasn't coming back to her grandpa was pretty hearbreaking. And while she made friends with Clara she also got so sick she started sleepwalking and hallucinating. And while Rottenmeier wasn't also that bad she did some pretty cruel things (like burning the hat her grandpa bought for her and she treasured) to her taking into account how young Heidi was

I was retarded back then and thought anime was for chicks and fags
Used to watch shit like Swat Cats and TMNT all the time
Even that Snow White anime that I saw was under heavy discretion and I always changed the channel whenever somebody came near the TV

>the scene when she realized she wasn't coming back to her grandpa was pretty hearbreaking
The grandpa was who really made me feel. He looked like he was tired of the world and his people but he was a good person and he ended up loving his niece.

I can relate, I remember watching Magica DoReMi while feeling bad at the thought someone saw me.

I didn't watch this, but I read the book many times as a kid, and it sounds like they did the sad parts justice. I'll have to look this up, then; it's giving me massive amounts of nostalgia.

Had the same with CCS and sailor moon.

>mfw I realise I watched more maho-shojo than shonen since day one

>grandpa
Grandpa had a bad backstory, everything was his fault for fucking up in his youth. Made me think that he couldn't handle people knowing and made his effort to give them reasons for believing that he indeed was a bad person.
In the book the "finds Jesus" via Heidi, I prefer how the anime toned down this.

Americans grew up associating Heidi with the Shirley Temple box set commercials that aired constantly in, hm, the late 90s, I think it was? Maybe early 2000s, but yeah, to Americans she's a blonde 3D.

Was it ever revealed what was up with the rumours about grandpa? I think I remember people shunning him because he apparently had killed someone, and I think I also remember being mentioned that he used to be a soldier
And now I'm also remembering the episode when they were gonna kill Snowflake and Heidi took her out to play with her one last time. Everything went better than expected thankfully

Swat Katz was fucking awesome

Any fellow South Africans watch this growing up?

I thought you didn't have TVs in Africa.

youtube.com/watch?v=RI3qPvtYnv0

I don't think they ever adress it properly, but yeah, the rumor is that he killed someone when he was young.

Does the book go in detail about what he did?

They have TVs, they don't have electricity.

First thing I did when I opened this thread was watching that.

Nippon Animation doesn't make TV anime anymore, right?

It's one of those anime Italia uno basally aired a billions of time.

I wonder if they still do it today.

I have Romeo's Blue Skies in the backlog from them, how's it?

Last time I turned on the TV was 4 months ago but I still saw the usual DBZ replica. All's right with the world.

Any porn of her and Clara?

His family had money but he was a rebel and didn't had responsibility, caused damages and displeasure for his family, his father died from heartbreak, his actions led to the lost of their land, went to fight on italian unification war as mercenary, returned with nothing, only regrets.
No one there done anything bad for him, he was a dick.

I didn't expect that. Well I guess it makes his "redeption" more meaningful.

Nissan Remembers™

TEINENPI DE NAAAANIIII

Oh, interesting he always seemed like a tragic figure but it seems he brought it on himself. I'm gonna guess the murder rumor probably came from his father and the suffering he caused to his family. I guess he was most likely not a good husband and father either. As this user said I do actually like the spin it gives to his redemption after taking Heidi in

>anime adaptation of Snow White
That sounds interesting
Can't find it on google, though. Can anyone give sauce on that?

Shirayuki Hime no Densetsu

I only remember it from the Gintama jokes.

I remember growing up having the Heidi LP
"Abuelito dime tu"

I watched a random chapter recently, and damn, she's so fucking annoying. Shouting to the grandpa the whole time. Poor guy.
I like Marco a lot more.

Many of us men had anecdotes like this.
A lot of guys in high school didn't want to admit they watched Sailor Moon.
I liked Little Woman (Jo was one of my early waifus) but, of course, I would watch Silverhawks like all the other guys (which I enjoyed nevertheless). I liked Hana no ko Lun Lun, but I'd change the channel whenever my brother arrived.
I didn't watch The von Trapp family for reasons similar than yours, and kinda because I thought it would be as stupid as the movie. But as an adult I watched a few chapters and I actually enjoyed it.

I had the VHS of the first episode when i was like 2 or 3, i also had the first episode of Marco
Both of my parents used to watch them too
