Even when guns were easier to obtain in previous decades mass-shootings of this nature were unheard of. The massacres back then were related to organized crime and had less than ten victims.

Now your community goes beyond your neighborhood. It's worplace, family and any other group you belong, and those are not the same from someone in one of those groups. You don't really care about some relatives that are pretty close to your parents for example.
But also that capability of moving between communities is what made the western civilization strong, and it's important to our survival.
