A lot of British cities that have a big University, e.g. University of Bath, also have a newer university created durng the 90's from old polytechnics, or just made completely new, e.g. Bath Spa. The secondary ones in each city are usually the more party kind of places and are looked down on by the primary university. They are not affiliated either. I'm not sure if Bath the city is often referred to as Bath Spa but this is not how you refer to the main university.
