What old anime are you watching user?
I'm watching this. It's pretty cool.
What old anime are you watching user?
presently Ao no Exorcist
just got to a sad kitty episode. ;_;
>Ao no Exorcist
>old
Are you fifteen?
No Im super drunk and didn't pick up on the word OLD
so uh
yeah disregard
Gunsmith cats. It's pretty fun.
I really liked the OVA and im thinking about picking up the manga.
>buy tons of classic anime who are on sale
>all of them are only German dubbed
Thankfully it's 80s-dubbing, where voice-acting didn't become 4kids-tier vomit.
As for your question OP, it's pic related.
Outlaw Star
Really good but not as good as i used to remenber
MIYAZAKI ANIME
bump
I've been waiting for a thread like this for so long, finally!
A few days ago, I watched the Yamamoto Yohko OVAs. And they were so much better than expected! They were actually fun and enjoyable, something I did not expect at all. I loved the main character's voice, looks and personality, and the ending theme was also really rad. Will probably not watch the TV series in a long time, but it was a great experience.
Yesterday, I watched Windaria. It had amazing animation and music, and was overall an enjoyable experience. It was an interesting movie.
I also watched the first part of Project A-Ko. That was not very good. I was expecting more songs, but at least the background music was rad too. The characters were annoying, the plot wasn't very interesting, and the animation didn't stand out in any way. It works as slightly below average entertainment, but it's not a good anime.
For longer series, I'm still stuck on Lodoss War TV, Banner of the Star and Fancy Lala. I've really loved what I've seen from Lodoss War so far, but it got too tense for me so I had to stop, and haven't wanted to continue yet. Still 10 episodes remaining, have been like that for a long time too.
Mahoromatic Automatic Maiden, it's pretty good.
Did you get the BD rip? It's only available as a raw, but the DVD subs work really fine with it.
Oh shit, is that sum Sherlock Hound? Loved that as a kid.
Been planning on watching some evangelion, but can't find an online download link
Rewatching Zeta then onto ZZ after. Unicorn really got my blood boiling for some Zeon action.
I want more older anime in my folder. I got plenty of 90s stuff (who doesn't), but its usually harder to find downloads for anything older.
If those from last decade count, I'm currently watching Heat Guy J.
Might Gaine
Maico 2010
I miss the age of the robot waifu
The manga is a fun ride, user. Pick it up!
I watched the first episode of Future Boy Conan, it's good. Then I got hooked on Re:Zero so it's on the back burner until I get caught up on that. Looking forward to more of it though, Miyazaki's good at adventure but I feel like the TV format will let him do even more than he was able to with Castle in the Sky or Lupin.
Rewatching NGE. Last time I watched it was years ago back when I self-inserted into everything and watched the dub.
So far I like it a lot more than I did. The first 4 episodes were a bit of a mess but after episode 5 it got a lot better. Up to episode 15 now.
Watched a bit of Brain Powerd as well. Love me some crazy Tomino.
I recently watched WIndaria because I remember an user saying that it was one of the best movies.
Can someone explain what is supposed to be good about it? The story seems rushed and the MC is a cunt. Is there some source material I'm not aware of?
...
I'm (nice we got the same dubs) and I also just finished it as I said.
I also felt the MC was a cunt, not a very nice person. The strongest parts of the movie imo are the animation and the music, but the story also has good sides.
It was really interesting to see such a negative story, where the bad guys win, the good guys get genocided. It really shows that war is not good (or something). And it had potential, the part where both sides wanted to avoid the war, but were still pushed into killing each other because of social pressures (but this should have been shown better). It's nice that it shows how evil humans are (or something). The ending was a bit hard to understand, though, I didn't understand the part about that woman and that other thing.
Idk, the exectution of the story could have been better, but it showed something we very rarely see, so it was interesting, and the aesthetics were amazing.
It had to be rushed. It couldn't fit all the themes into a movie format.
saber marionette j
Started watching Touch yesterday. First episode was ok, but I read it turns into a drama later on, how's that?
It's way too short though
I'm planning on watching the 6 remaining episodes of GaoGaiGar FINAL tonight. I don't think I'm ready for this.
Struggling to finish the Sanctuary arc of Saint Seiya, Pisces' fight is really dragging.
At least Shun is relevant again
Dont read Burst after original.
Just finished cardcaptor sakura last episode and going to start watching second movie. I dont think i can do this
I found a boxset of Sherlock Hound in storage the other day. I remember getting half way through episode one before quitting because it was English dub only, and, as a Brit, I'm pretty sure those accents ain't right. No wonder it was bargain binned.
I love some of the old BBC dubs though. They hired a lot of actors who did general radio dramas and TV parts, it wasn't cartoon only actors.
Oh and a mention for the Canadian (?) dub for Mysterious Cities of Gold that they used to air, watching it now it's some of the best unintentional humour in dubbing, and doesn't get in the way of the story.
The non-Miyazaki eps of Sherlock Hound are never get as good as before. I liked it when the plots were a bit more zany though because it obviously owes to Lupin.
Episode 19 of Xabungle for me.
So far I'm actually kind of liking it more than Ideon. Kind of weird how it was made when Tomino was depressed though due to how lighthearted it is.

Was planning to continue Lodoss War today, but still haven't done it.
Are you me? I say that everyday
...
I delayed watching the third episode for so long because I didn't want it to end.
Today, I watched 2 first episodes of Golden Boy. I really liked it.
Dude just watch the other 4.
Golden Boy went by so quick for me, I was dying for more by the end of it and just ended up immediately rewatching.
Just started watching it myself the other day.
I have a feeling I won't like Golden Boy that much. It may be hilarious, but many of the most funny comedy anime have felt empty and pointless when I've finished them, like Fumoffu and Nozaki-Kun, and School Rumble although I haven't finished that yet. I just have a feeling Golden Boy will be the same thing, nothing going for it besides the comedy which will end up feeling empty, even though it'd make me laugh.
Which version? I'm working on the TV version, watched the OVA two or three years ago.
Comedy is like an empty calorie food item anyway, you're not supposed to take anything from it. Just have fun and remember it down the line.
I just finished this garbage
It is a real pity that they never finished the story arc, and left it with two episodes. The ED is godly though.
I surealy will watch the rest, user.
All anime is a timefiller, don't kid yourself.
Life is filler
Watching the TV series right now, I'll probably just move right down this line.
i hope parn gets that sweet elf booty
You mean you'll drop the TV series?
Also, had no idea there was that much related content to see.
I am at episode 17, and it's such a good anime, why do you want to drop that, hopefully it doesn't fall apart in the next few episodes, because so far it has been really great!
Kirby and ChaCha are both in my rotation right now. Really enjoying them both.
>You mean you'll drop the TV series?
No, once I'm done I'll be going through the others, not sure what they are though.
Utena
I blame this show for my light kemono fetishes.
Probably the worst thing Ghibli has ever produced.
I thought that was a Hanah Barbera cartoon at first desu
What was your favorite fight?
Ghibli has nothing to do with it, it's a TMS production.
Going through the original series right now. I thought that Black Cat Mansion was kind of weak, but a lot of these are pretty fun.
Shit taste
I watched Star of Cottonland but it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. It seems like a lot of older anime films have one of those weird music video-esque scenes with a pop song halfway through.
All adachi mitsuru works are drama with a sports team (usually baseball) setting. That being said, they're fucking great. After watching Cross Game, reading H2 and calling the touch anime shit and reading the manga instead, I honestly don't understand why everyone says touch is his best work.
I just finished Gunbuster, the first 3 episodes where eh, the latter 3 where a lot better. The romance subplot with the coach felt "forced" but I guess that is a side effect of Japan's obsession with sending emotionally unstable teenage girls into space for combat. The age and time progression was interesting, and the end was pretty good too. Noriko a cute.
Rewatching Slayers Again. Cutting out some images this time.
His best work is Nijiiro Togarashi because fuck sports. Also because it has his best cast and most varied gags, plus inseki (Miyuki's inseki doesn't count because Miyuki is terrible).
I really wish I could watch a sub of the original Samurai Pizza Cats. I've only seen the English dub which was not a translation.
There's a sub release on bakabt.
Why they only made blurays for the OVAs instead of also making them for the TV series is beyond me
I want to force myself to finish first City Hunter series, Mospeada and Dougram. But I can't.
The last show I've finished is Dead Heat OVA.
im watching Hajime no ippo
Watched this not too long ago.
How insufferable was it?
It was pretty nostalgic, I watched when I was like five years old or something. Worst thing is I remembered almost everything that happened.
I wouldn't say it's a master piece, and the MC is a jackass, but main girl is as hot as I remembered her when I was five.
Currently working my way through Rose Of Versailles, the art and animation is quite astonishing at some points.
I really dig stuff like Orange Road and Maison Ikkoku, because it gives a contemporary view of 80's Japan.
The oldest ippo anime is from 2000
Mrs.Hudson has changed a lot of Japanese to the Kemono fetish.
I started that a while ago, got to episode 10 before I stopped for no reason. I think it was that I wanted to watch 5 episodes every time, so I need a lot of time to put into it before I can start. And I kinda forgot about it. Oh, and given that this takes place among French royalty at the end of the 1700s, I really worry about how it'll end, and I don't have good feelings about it.
>2000
same fucking shit senpai
>Oh, and given that this takes place among French royalty at the end of the 1700s, I really worry about how it'll end, and I don't have good feelings about it.
250 years ago is long enough to stop needing a spoiler warning.
Sorry if I semi-spoiled you
But as a rule old shows have to be before Y2K
There's a reason this is great. The whole 2nd half of the show once Dezaki starts directing is fantastic.
Many of the old anime threads had that, but that isn't what makes an old anime. 2000 was 15 years ago, you could probably have some more recent anime.
Digital dominated era may be a good place to draw the line though. But there really should be dedicated threads for early 2000s anime too, perhaps.
Digital downloading has been around for as long as many of these shows have been. Draw it at what is cell animated vs. digitally animated.
I'm watching Magic Knights Rayearth again because I last saw it like 7 years ago when I was still in college and no longer remember anything about it.
Its 90s as fuck but I'm enjoying it so far.
I meant era dominated by digital anime, as in the time when most anime were digitally animated. There are some 90s anime that were digitally animated, but the industry overall was dominated by cel animation, so they should be included because that's how their era was.
But to be honest I don't think the line should be super strict. For example, the whole Banner of the Stars franchise should be welcome, even though some aired after 2000. Other early 2000s anime also feel really old, like Love Hina.
I entirely agree with you on that point. Several of the series posted here have had iterations put out past Y2K, and other shows that aired at that period or a little later weren't done digitally.
I loved that one when I was a kid. Good taste, user.
I loved Magic Knight Rayearth. Great music too.
it's a cool show but he's not Sherlock Holmes.
Fire Emblem OVA and Kinnikuman. FE is okay, I just like that Marth has the same seiyuu as in Smash. Kinnikuman has charm, but it's no masterpiece. It's really easy to watch though so I throw on an episode every now and then.
Windaria is the best movie though. To me.
>I didn't understand the part about that woman and that other thing.
The part about the woman? If you are referring to his lover then she was killed and was waiting for his return as a ghost. If you mean druid the woman who turned into stone. Her lover was forced to be the captain of the ghost ship to collect the souls of the deceased for 10 years. She turned to stone because she waited so long for him to be done with it but then decided after the war that he must take the burden and forever be the captain of the ghost ship.
His lover I understood, it was the other thing I didn't understand. why did she turn into stone, and why did she decide he had to be captain forever, and why couldn't someone else, and that whole part was a bit confusing.
That is probably the worst anime I have ever seen. I watched all of it including the movies and OVAs. It is absolute shit of the highest order with the exception of the animation and the first ed. The most insufferable MC in history that relies on asspulls and misunderstandings.
youtube.com
I hope to hell you got the OST after that. It is one of my favorite OSTs ever made.
>why couldn't someone else
She suffered through hell waiting for him and could not have another fell the same way that she felt so she and he made the sacrifice for that. Sahe also most likely knew about him and how his lover went through the same ordeal in a way.
That makes sense, thanks. Don't remember who Sahe is, it was the main character?
I don't listen much to anime songs without lyrics, but I've listened a bit to youtube, especially that song with lyrics which is really good
