I think part of the problem is that to be successful as a musician you need to be decently popular.
These days the PC status quo beliefs are more popular.
Therefore the most successful musicians are those who echo those beliefs.
Just because they put out "hardcore" music doesn't mean they are actually hardcore, it just means they have angst which people experience regardless of their beliefs. I mean, there are christian hardcore metal bands and christian rap groups.
There are some real musicians putting out real messages, but those messages aren't what the average low IQ spoon fed person are going to want to hear when they're looking to experience meaningless escapism through music. Therefore these artists are hardly every successful in any way, and even if they reach some success it is limited.
To be honest most people who feel the need to be blatantly rebellious to the point of basic their self identity around it probably have a plethora of issues clouding their judgement.
I've wanted to get into music, but I realize that if I tried to put music out with actual meaning and real messages behind it it would never be popular. The best idea I've come up with is to do a subtle parody of mainstream music, to the point where some people will be dumb enough to take it seriously but smart people will notice subtle clues that I'm actually ridiculing the things I'm talking about. But that sounds pretty fucking difficult to pull off, plus what if everybody just thought I was being serious?
