The MC is too nice to really cut ties off with the girls, but the feud starts to interfere with his life and his work, threatening his chances of getting the scholarship. This culminates in the girls accidentally destroying his work during an art show, costing him the scholarship and his dream and sending him into a depression and causing the girls to find a way to make things right.
Basically, it's a harem set up, but shows that most of the harem antics in these series could lead to physical and emotional stress for the MC.

While the anime is a bit of a harem anime, its mostly a story about how the boy named Keitaro, by the women, deals with his new life and helps the women deal with their personal problems, so it has a lot of slice of life properties but with some emotional drama as we discover why each of the women have become a christmas cake.

Discovering these motives fosters concern. The young woman sees the young man answering the sky lanterns as an excuse to neglect the losses he suffered. The young man sees the young woman as a lonely person using the sky lanterns in hopes of find meaning in her vacant life.
As the two characters work together for certain requests, they begin to understand each other, eventually leading them to answer one another’s sky lantern request: helping the young man accept separation and finding a purpose in life for the young woman.

When he wakes up, Japan is a wreck and demons are everywhere, he also awakens to his ability to devour said demons by way of his cavity filled tooth projecting a giant maw of darkness to swallow them. >What comes next is a series of chuuni clichés; teenagers with stupid fashion sense running around chanting, edge, pseudo intellectualism and half baked philosophies, and everyone taking everything really fucking seriously. >MC meets a petite girl in a nurse's uniform on his quest to destroy all cavi-demons and imprison the demon that got loose, that turned out to be the king. >A blooming romance begins to take shape. >At the end they reach the demon king and MC manages to "uproot" the demon from his throne. >He smiles victoriously at Nurse, a glaring gap from a missing tooth now visible. >Nurse is about to confess but then MC wakes up. >It was all one big delusion. Everything's fine and the pain is gone. The catharsis of that life changing drug induced dream causes MC to shed his chuuni ways and become a more pleasant person since he isn't acting out out of pain anymore. >Grows up to become a dentist with a cute nurse-chan assistant. I call it "2:30" or "Tooth Hurty"
