Talks on safe passage for Raqqa civilians halted - official
Talks on securing safe passage for civilians from the last neighborhoods held by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) of Syria’s Raqqa have stopped, a city official close to the discussions said Friday. City officials and tribal leaders had been working this week to negotiate the safe exit of people trapped inside extremist-held areas. The source told AFP that some civilians were safely brought out during a lull in fighting in recent days. However, negotiations faltered over the issue of letting IS fighters leave and clashes resumed. “We completely reject the idea that their security members leave the city without consequences,” the official said. It is not clear whether the talks might resume.
Kurdistan govt deploys ‘tens of thousands’ of fighters in Kirkuk to confront Iraqi ‘threats’
Tens of thousands of Kurdish fighters have been deployed in the multi-ethnic oil region of Kirkuk to confront possible “threats” from Iraqi forces, Kurdish TV channel Rudaw quoted the vice president of the Kurdistan region, Kosrat Rasul, as saying on Friday. “Tens of thousands of Kurdish Peshmerga and security forces are already stationed in and around Kirkuk,” he said, as cited by Reuters. “At least 6,000 additional Peshmerga were deployed since Thursday night to face the Iraqi forces’ threat.” The Iraqi central government said on Thursday it would not hold talks with the Kurdish autonomous region on reopening its airports and providing dollars for its banks, unless the Kurds commit to “Iraq’s unity” following the September 25 referendum on independence. archive.is/88brL
Russian military says nearly 92% of Syria freed from ISIS terrorists
About 92 percent of Syria has been freed from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants, TASS reports, citing weekly infographics published by the Russian Defense Ministry’s Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper on Friday. The Russian Air Force performed about 517 combat sorties and destroyed over 1,260 facilities controlled by international terrorist groups in the past week, according to the Defense Ministry. This figure includes over 139 sorties by drones, which detected 129 terrorist-held objects.

>Damascus says Turkish intervention in Idlib 'illegal'
Syrian government media have criticized Turkish military intervention in the Idlib region although it is coordinated by Russia, an ally of Damascus. Syrian government news agency Sana said that the ''Erdogan regime - referring to Turkish President Tayyep Recep Erdogan - has intervened in Idlib, accompanied by al Qaida terrorists with the excuse of implementing the agreement'' forged in Astana, where Russia, Turkey and Iran have been meeting since last January to define areas of influence in Syria. Two days ago, speaking in Sochi, Russia, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al Muallim called Turkish intervention in Idlib ''illegal''.
Syrian fighter pilot who faced espionage trial in Turkey returns home
A Syrian fighter pilot who was detained after crashing in southern Turkey in March has returned to Syria after a Turkish court released him on Friday, according to Syrian TV. The pilot, Mehmet Sufhan, faced trial in Turkey charged with espionage and violating border security after he crashed in the border province of Hatay. He was found by a search team, treated at a local hospital and detained, Reuters said. A criminal court in Hatay released him, but legal proceedings are continuing, Turkish media said on Friday. Several hours later Syrian TV said Sufhan was back in Syria, saying his return was the result of “vigorous attempts and intensive efforts.” archive.is/tSHk6

>Turkish troops receive warm welcome in Syria’s Idlib
People living inside a de-escalation zone established in and around Syria's Idlib province have given a warm welcome to Turkish troops deployed in the area to support a cease-fire.
As Turkish troops deployed in the area, residents of the Darat Izza district -- a de-escalation zone set up in Aleppo’s western countryside -- cheered for Turkey and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Anadolu Agency correspondents covering the deployments.
Waving flags associated with the Free Syria Army (FSA), local residents chanted slogans, such as, “Syria and Turkey are friends” and “We all love Erdogan”.
“We are happy to see our brothers deployed here; they are welcome,” one local resident told Anadolu Agency. “Erdogan represents humanity. God damn the PKK [terrorist group].”
Many local residents gathered after Friday prayers to express their support for the Turkish troops.
“Thank you for protecting the Syrian people,” they shouted. “Welcome back to your country, sons of Mehmet the Conqueror.”
Ok, shitposts being shitposts, but what do you lads think about 2 things, that is, as described here:
And here >First units of TAF went into Idleb, escorted by Nusra - that fact is cited both by Turkish media and Reuters. It looks like Erdogan is sperging loudly about cooperation with RF, while in fact he started an operation against Russians, Kurds and US, based on his new allies - Nusra. Did Erdo really sperg and acted against both US and Russia in his dream of murdering as much Kurds as possible, even with Nusra help? Did he literally loss his mind? Nothing good can come out of it. And second, the Kirkuk stuff, my guess is federal government will just take the city, because Peshmerga won't defend it - for a simple reason. It's full of Turkmens, Arabs and Kurds, it's just not Kurdish and the residents and locals wouldn't have the spirit to hold against PMU&friends invasion.
Kevin Gray
I one don't think the green lines will happen nor the red. Erdogan is doing what he cared more about and I think he wants to take the pressure off that area and make sure kurds won\t take more land when he moves troops around from that area. Why would russia/saa want kurds replaced by FSA who are ready to form a strong political opposition to Assad. Yeah the kurdish question also comes into balance but afrin kurds have been alright compared to the others. I think right now for SAA it's best to have kurds on that area rather than TFSA which goes by what the great insultan wish..

I wouldn't put it past him, this is one of the reasons I challenge the Bongroach on his support for Erdogan, he's a shifty fuck and you can't trust him.
Aaron Ramirez
Erdogan said he will never let terrorist (kurdish) state form on his borders, going out on his own, despite what others say is something i would expect from him, besides, juggeling between america and russia, witouth ever actually joining one side is something he's always done. As funny as it is, Turky is one of those nations that can say they are truly independent and dont have to follow anyone

>Erdogan said he will never let terrorist (kurdish) state form on his borders Oh yes, absolutely, he won't allow a final peace deal (given his guarantor status @Astana) if it includes PKK/PYD (Afrin, Manbij) bordering Turkey. >besides, juggeling between america and russia, witouth ever actually joining one side is something he's always done Yep, Russia/NATO, EU/out of EU is AKP game definitely. We'd use some Turkish user on this one tho for some insight >he's a shifty fuck and you can't trust him. It's not bad for Turkey, keep that in mind, they his own population barely expects his next steps, not to mention international partners. >I one don't think the green lines will happen nor the red. I think so as well, the zone bordering Afrin is just to prevend Kurdish meddling into implementing the deescalation zones. >he wants to take the pressure off that area and make sure kurds won\t take more land when he moves troops around from that area. Yeah, exactly. >Why would russia/saa want kurds replaced by FSA who are ready to form a strong political opposition to Assad. Russia is ready for this, they wanted Saudis to form a unified opposition, who they could deal with in negotiations at international level, because now there isn't an entity like this. >afrin kurds have been alright compared to the others Yes, the locals, but in the end it all comes to PYD I'm afraid. They have the "final call". > I think right now for SAA it's best to have kurds on that area rather than TFSA Very hard to say, both are hardly partners and both might be even dangerous militarily in the future, given Russia might back their MPs.

>Trump, meanwhile, announced plans to take action against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, authorizing the Treasury Department to impose targeted sanctions against “its officials, agents, and affiliates.”
>“Execution of our strategy begins with a long overdue step of imposing tough sanctions on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” Trump said. “The revolutionary guard is the Iranian supreme leader’s corrupt personal terror force and militia.”
> In his broadside against the Iranian regime, the president said it “remains the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism,” accusing it of providing assistance to Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Hezbollah and other terrorist networks.
>The president accused Iran of developing missiles that threaten American troops and allies and imprisoning Americans “on false charges.” “Given the regime's murderous past and present, we should not take lightly its sinister vision for the future,” Trump said. “The regimes two favorite chants are ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel.’”
>The president did not designate the IRGC a terrorist group, something that had been rumored ahead of the announcement. In the run-up to the decision, Iranian officials threatened consequences if that occurred. “If the news is correct about the stupidity of the American government in considering the Revolutionary Guards a terrorist group, then the Revolutionary Guards will consider the American army to be like Islamic State all around the world,” IRGC commander Mohammad Ali Jafari said Sunday, according to Reuters
