When you finally get your immigration hearing, it's done over a video conferencing call against a trained immigration lawyer that has prepared a case against granting you entry status.

I think that if the Nationalism was inclusive you would always get 2nd and 3rd generations supporting their host nation (providing that education in a country is standardized and effective).
I don't think they would clash. If their parents (the 1st generation) did not integrate into society (learn the host's language etc.) and remained living off benefits/poor, the 2nd and 3rd generation would likely end up resenting their parents for not integrating and taking part in their host nations culture.

I don't think Western style nationalism is compatible with insular ideology like Islam.
Sure, there will be numerous outliers that will take their national identity over religion, but parallel societies will still be going on strong and dominate the discourse in their group.
Current Western societies are also pretty secular, so it's safe to assume that the new nationalism would also have to be secular, which is something islamists will not accept.
Going back to some kind of religious nationalism is of course possible in theory, but the majority of religious conflicts going on currently involve muslims and some other religion, so I don't expect this to help them integrate at all.
I'm by no means an expert on muslims, but I have a bunch of stories from working with muslim uni students as a supervisor and they don't fill me with confidence regarding their integration to anything resembling a Western society. But I need to fuck off to sleep now.
tl;dr is it possible to integrate muslims in the current paradigm? To some extent, yes, but it's not very effective, especially with huge waves of migration and their natural birthrate, and the societal costs prove too great.

Why is not more effort put into re-education of western ideals (such as separation of Government and religion).
Heck, why isn't conversion to more traditionally western religions considered. With agnosticism/atheism on the rise, converting non-traditional religions such as Islam to more western ideals such as Protestantism/Catholism/Christianism/Judaism/COE as part of their immigration conditions would give the churches something to do and would reduce the number of extremists in the west.
