I am quite against white nationalism and white separatism but there is definitely some truth to the notion of a "white", European culture. Neo-traditionalists and other radical movements see beyond the petty nationalisms of Europe, and they are correct in the sense that such nationalism is a recent (Westphalia/Napoleon) notion.
Contrary to what you say, Europeans of old would have and in fact actually did have a notion of kinship despite their petty tribal differences.
Europe's racial background was formed by continent-wide admixture events starting with the exodus from the glacial refuges of southern and eastern Europe ; that is, most of Europe comes from a few small hubs in modern-day northern Spain / southwestern France, Serbia and Ukraine. Latin formed in the Carpathians, German in Pannonia.
Then there are more modern admixture events - the Roman Empire (which contrary to what you say is definitely a common identifier for Europe since it was precisely a universalist federation), the Germanic and Slavic migrations, Mediterranean population movements, Ottoman expansion, intra-European migrations of the 19th and 20th centuries etc.
