Yu Yu Hakusho

How much better would it be if they actually went on war instead of that stupid dark tournament idea?
Do you think HxH is reusing the Demon Realm idea now with its current arc?

I'm on ep. 103 and I don't know how they'll fit all that in 9 episodes.

Come back when you've finished

You'll find out. It's nowhere near as in-depth with its fights like DT was.

...

I wouldn't say HxH is reusing the Demon Realm idea as they aren't that similar

>The Dark Continent is a place that can't be found in the map and it's where magical beasts come from.
It resembled me a bit of the Demon Realm. Maybe Togashi will use some of his past ideas on this arc?

You could tell that Togashi just wanted to end this series as soon as possible when Yusuke proposed that tournament. It's such a shame too, because the Three Kings arc was building up to potentially be the best arc in the whole manga, but it jumped straight off a cliff.

It's hard to tell at this point if there is a civilization living on the Dark Continent. The Demon Realm is different because it's misunderstood as an evil place because of the bad reputation of demons.

meant to reply to

Happens when editor kun wants Togashi to make YYH demon tournament battle manga cuz it's the mid 90s and Dragonball was still happening and he's like fuck it Yusukes just gonna realize it's all worthless and end it

Actually would have been way better, thanks user now I can sleep at night knowing one of my childhood favorites is incomplete.

You're welcome, sarcastic user.

My theory is the HxH world is the Demon World of YYH just several hundred years in the future. In YYH they mention that a small part of Demon World is relatively safe because it's controlled by Spirit World. Yusuke became an extremely powerful demon after he was trained, but he had 40 ancestors between him and Reizen who amounted to nothing. At the end of YYH demons are permitted to pass freely between human and demon world, so there's no doubt some of them would mate with humans. If by some chance their progeny awakened as demons in the human world they could fuck shit up, but they aren't strong enough to live amongst normal demons without training. The HxH world is a holding pen for these people. It would explain why the world is relatively lawless, and why so many people have supernatural abilities. The Dark Continent is just the rest of the Demon World.

So the Special Squad would be the first "hunters" that ever existed?

>Gin and Gon are descendants of Yusuke

>the golden energy Sensui and Yusuke use is nen

So Gon is demonkin afterall.

Someone post Yu Yu Hakusho now that we are almost out of HxH chapters!

it's so GOOD

Oh, wait.
I thought I was still in this thread.

You can't end a good party without someone on the floor

how do you explain the power gap? yusuke eodt would rape meruem

>instead of that stupid dark tournament idea?
I actually liked the ending. It's too sudden, surely, but I liked that the protagonist didn't win and yet things turned out fine anyway.

I'm on ep. 108 now and it seems all too rushed. I don't know how they'll fit the three main fights in 4 episodes.

It is rushed, don't get me wrong. It definitely could and should have been executed better. But I liked the idea and the events that happened.

How the fuck did Togashi go from godlike YYH to super generic trash HXH?

I'd say HxH is pretty generic until the maybe the York Shin or Greed Island arc.

Shaman King

I only watched the anime and it was so long ago that I don't remember shit, is it worth it to check the manga?

This is obvious bait, but HxH is anything but generic.
In fact, it's a deconstruction of generic manga.
Every arc in Hunter x Hunter is so wildly different than the last, and the constant subversion of typical shonen battle manga tropes is pretty refreshing.
Not to mention, Nen is probably the best magic system period it terms of creativity, complexity, and balance.
Togashi's brilliant atmosphere in the series also allows the series to go from childlike wonder to grim and shocking and vice versa incredibly naturally.
Hunter x Hunter, objectively speaking is a far better manga than Yu Yu Hakusho.
I love Yu Yu Hakusho, but other than its great cast of characters, it had a lot of problems and doesn't hold up very well.

Yes.
The anime is shit and also goes anime original.
The manga is really great. It goes down in quality around the time Jeanne is introduced, but even then it's still readable.
Make sure to stop at a certain point and read the Kazenban chapters.
The manga was cancelled in Weekly Shonen Jump during the final arc and thus he had to rush it to a conclusion.
The Kazenban volumes were released years later and included a bunch of chapters meant to replace the final rushed chapters of the manga and give it a more full natural ending.

There's also a sequel called Shaman King Flowers that was running a few years ago. Sadly though the magazine it was in got cancelled and Takei chose to cancel the manga as well rather than move it to another magazine.

ok thanks

shaman king ends like that.
i'd love to see an anime reboot of sk. i want horo to be cool again.

It dropped in quality after the everyone started dying and coming back to life stronger shit started

The way I see it HxH's whole world is just like that movie The Village. Everyone born in the village thought they lived in the 18th century, and it was only when they left the village did they learn it was actually the end of the 20th century. HxH's world is the village, so Meruem would be the strongest being alive from the perspective of a villager. No one born in HxH world, except the handful of people that have gone to the Dark Continent and lived to tell about it, would have any reference to the actual demon hierarchy. If my theory turns out to be true (which I really doubt even Togashi is that lazy) we'd get the same reveal that Meruem was only Toguro level powerful and there are super strong demons every where.

Shaman King had a character in the main cast named Chocolove McDonnell.
He was a gangster from New York, who grew up on the streets
Best character.

A remake would be awesome. but I can't see it happening. Takei seems to be done with the series after what happened with Flowers.
Shame too, the manga could have easily gotten a new anime if the Flowers manga continued.
Flowers sold very well actually and would have likely gotten an anime eventually, and I'd like to think they'd adapt the original Shaman King in full beforehand.

Which is around the time Jeanne got introduced.

I loved Shaman King, I even liked it when it went full power-levels and every main character having died at least 16 times.
The one thing about the series that I think it complete, utter, indefensible dogshit however; is the flashback arc.
Makes the Alma Toran arc in Magi seem as interesting and exciting as York Shin.

This is now a mid 90' battle manga nostalgia thread.
Anyone remember Law of Ueki? It was a big favorite of mine as a kid.
The mangaka's current series Saike Mata Shitemo is fucking great as well. Actually much better than Law of Ueki.

Saike Mata Shitemo.
It's kind of like Law of Ueki meets Groundhogs Day.

It's one of those weird fun battle manga.

Speaking of weird fun battle manga, do you guys remember Gash Bell? Such a brilliant series.
Honestly one of the best battle manga, period.

Raiku is the master of emotional manipulation

He has a currently running weekly series called Vector Ball which is arguably even weirder but just as fun.

Edgy hot topic shit.
SnK of the 90s.

YYH?
Are you an autistic user?

>current arc
Wait, what?

With HxH's current arc.

Yeah I realized that after I posted. I put in my contacts and read it and felt too dumb to delete it.

Kurapika is on a giant boat on a trek to the Dark Continent with his crew of Melody and Moustache dude from his bodyguard team in York Shin, Biscuit, and the dude who taught him Nen.
The Zodiac is also on the boat, and the Zodiacs might be as well.
There's also Netero's son Beyond, and his squad, and a bunch of princes who plan to have a full on battle royale on the boat.
There's also Nen demons involved.
Shaping up to be pretty crazy.

There's also an arc in the middle of the arc where Hisoka and Chrollo have a crazy fight in Heavens Arena which leads to the "death" of one of the combatants.

,

What the shit, hxh came back when and we finally got Chrollo vs Hisoka? Your use of "death" and saying of one of them confuses me.

Chrollo kills Hisoka but Hisoka brings himself back to life because he had too much of a boner for Chrollo.
Then he kills Shalnark and Kortopi.

Much better. Worst decision that could had been done

Ok. Just finished the last episode and I'm astonished how Yusuke's jeans and sneakers lasted 112 episodes.

Nah YYH sucks, dirt poor man's DB.

Togashi wouldn't have been able to pull it off back then. If he wasn't in the mindset to end YYH the way he did, we wouldn't get the Togashi that made Level E and HxH.

Everything starting from Sensui to the end was him making a shounen battle manga while wriggling in protest resulting in ironic shounen battle manga tropes and anti-climatic developments.

This is why I loved YYH, it tried to desconstruct the shonen tropes and it was successful in doing it.

But in the topic, if there was a War among the Yokais I think Yomi would be the winner. His Kingdom was technologically more advanced than the others.

YYH a best

>it tried to desconstruct the shonen tropes and it was successful in doing it.
Top kek

I think Mukuro would eventually ally with Yusuke to fight against Yomi, if that ever happened.

Honestly, I find Bleach the better spirit manga than Yu Yu Hakusho.

1. YYH rehashes the same arcs every other arc. 95% of the time it's "Spirit Mystery Case" or "Tournament Arc". This can get repetitive fast. Bleach had a "Spirit Job Arc", "Invasion Arc", "Rivalry arc with Invasion arc subplot", "War Arc", "Mystery Arc" and "War Arc".

2. There are blanks in my memory on what happened. I recall the trying to come back to life stuff in detail, the Kurama/Hiei artifact stealing stuff, The Genkai Tournament arc. Then a big blank until the Dark Tournament. Afterwords I don't remember much of what happens afterwords. I only remember Shinsui due to everybody making comparisons of him to Ginjou in Bleach.

In Bleach the only thing that I have more of a blank of is what happened in Fullbring Arc. Otherwise than that, I recall the major details of that arc.

3. There was more excitement in Bleach with it's plot twists (at least 90% of the time) than there were with Yu Yu Hakusho.

The birth of feminism.

This is the worst opinion I've seen all week

Oh really? You have any counterpoints? Because I don't hear any.

>Honestly, I find Bleach the better spirit manga than Yu Yu Hakusho.
Agreed, the beginning of the manga to the end of the Soul Society arc is better than anything in Yu Yu Hakusho.

So, anything new?

That's a spicy shitpost user.
