I like his creature designs and the architectural stuff. As his drawing has progressed his characters have become more same-faced, though. The actual writing I don't find to be anything special and I'm not sure why some people rave about it, but if they enjoy it then that's good for them.

I like Blame and Sidonia equally, personally. Objectively it's harder to say, Blame has more creativity to it but Sidonia is more approachable. Blame is definitely his most notable work, though.
