I'd like to believe he had a very lucky partnership with the light novel author. Of course he gave descriptions, maybe in detail, but don't discount that the artist has great taste and experience.
His story on the other hand, I'd like to believe it got better but he didn't change the end of Alicization, that shit needed rework, since it's amazing his WN rough draft was 100x better than the first chapter of the real thing.
He also treats his characters like shit unfortunately if the world doesn't revolve around the protagonist.
