Mouretsu Pirates

I'm just about done with this, what was the discussion like as it aired? I miss shows with >13 episodes

Light lesbian talk and shitposting about how boring it was.

After people realized that the show wasn't about pirates then it lost a lot of fans. Most of the threads were dedicated to the cute girls, such as Chiaki or Turkey Hat. There was a decent amount of speculation since it went off track from the light novel source material as well.

Mostly the cute girls and bitching about how much better the show would be if they were pirates.

it was good. everyone liked it and no one posted every thread that it was boring.

Surprisingly accurate depiction of possible space combat with the solar sailor. Otherwise a boring mass of false pretenses.

it was kinda chill when people weren't complaining about how boring it was.

to be fair, it was kinda boring. which is insane since it had a really energetic OP.

THICC

Chiaki is cute though.

Angry HanaKana is always the best.

I didn't expect this at all when it happened.

I had so high hopes for this series, but it just gets worse and worse with every new episode.

Completely this. It was hyped preseason as the return of space operas and that was definitely not what it delivered.

Dropped it at episode 8 or 9 out of boredom and because the princess was annoying.

What a waste.

...

They weren't even fucking pirates

Would have been benefited if the main characters were dykes rather than just those two other chicks. I just wanted Chiaki to say "Dakara" while Gruer ate her out.

It was OK, but fuck me the writing got messy near the end. The movie was pretty cool though, people actually fought instead of all conflict being resolved beforehand making any tension pointless.

I completely agree. It was fun having the yacht club do their hijinks, and the OP itself was some good shit, but belied the material which is more akin to Aria than Harlock.

...

Don't know about when it aired, but just finished it up a couple weeks ago myself, still need to run down the movie.
I rather enjoyed it. The mix of some privateer/Rogue Trader with high school girls and some pirate spirit was fun and I would be happy to see more.

My favorite part was how resourceful the entire cast was and the process that they took to get things done. While a lot of it was Hollywood hacking mumbo jumbo, I liked how everyone was careful to the point where they avoided any loss of life. It definitely worked with the pumped up clubhouse spirit.

I wasn't really bored, I just felt lost the entire time. The OP was good.

Judging from reading the rest of this thread now, I think I benefited from not having any notion of what it was outside of a description blurb that was pretty much "high school girl inherits pirate crew, hijinks ensue".

Yeah, the character interactions, particularly with folk working together so much, were nice.
The electronic warfare was a nice touch for me, I like my space combat with EW, and if they are relying on human-guided software and AI protocols then it isn't the worst representation that I've seen. Bad hollywood would have a hackerscape and FPS/3D combat somehow deciding how The Hack goes down. At least they had loading screens, tabs, and progress bars. I know, I set a low bar, but so few meet that challenge.

I played the pachinko machine for this a few weeks ago and it would not pay out, so it sucks.

(Actually I was wondering what the show was like... the scenes I saw in the pachinko were pretty mundane, there was very little space pirating going on.)

Cute girls doing cute things IN SPACE.

This will be the closest thing to a Macross / K-On cross over.

I liked it. Was sort of Space Opera, without all the melodramatic action that a Space Opera usually has. Which hurt it a little bit.

However, it played things straight and realistic given the premise and setting, which I haven't seen other shows do. Which was pretty good.

The only real detriment was how sometimes things would drag on a little bit, especially the explanations and the lack of any actual real focus.
For example, I had no clear idea what the two princesses wanted aboard the arc ship thing. Could've been a macguffin but the characters, other than the princesses, weren't given much conflict/motivation to carry the show, until the reveal of of the actual macguffin, which I am still loss on the importance of; if only they spent time explaining that.

I still have to finish watching it.

>Animu about space pirates
>"Neat" t:me
>It's actually a show about space pop-stars who cosplay as pirates and go around "stealing" from cruise liners, with the whole thing being just an act

I don't know. Maybe i was just spoiled by Harlock.

...

This show is greatly underrated.

Was Marika and Chiaki a thing, or nah? i heard somewhere that the LN hooked Marika up with some dude.
