So I've just finished watching this film, and it was honestly a little underwhelming. I feel like it could have benefited from just a little more screen time.
The animation was still real nice in some parts, and it was overall enjoyable.
Should I watch the TV series? I've heard it's not as dark as the movie, but I'm still interested if it's similar to the movie, just more fleshed out.

You should've watched the TV series first, user.
And yes it's much more fleshed out, but it does get quite rushed towards the end.
Alrighty, thanks for the info, I'll give it a go
Enjoy the ride while it lasts. It's a fun show.
Name 1 fucking time its a good idea to watch the "recap movie" instead of the entire series.
TV show is amazing, you should have watched it first.

Is the romance any good? I lean towards that more than anything else.
ESCAFLOWNE COULD'VE BEEN 10/10 MASTERPIECE IF THERE WAS JUST SOME MORE EPISODES.
No.
Yes.
Maybe, if you're into NTR.
Being an 8/10 classic is nothing to scoff at though
Series was amazing and one of the best of its time. Movie fell right on its face and fucked everything up.
JAJUKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I dunno, the ending really pissed me off because it was so obviously trying to wrap things up quickly.
blame japanese sponsors
Movie gave us more amazing ost.
Otherwise it was an abomination in comparison.
Esca is a 9/10 classic with the best op/ed combo ever made.
Absolutely fucking heretical. Dropped.
It's good by anime standards.
Yes, watch the series. I less dark than the movie, but everything is explained better and shit makes more sense, Folken has an actual motivation to be a villian, and a Boss, instead of being the big bad guy for the sake of being a big bad guy.
