Also, not really a spoiler since it never comes up in the manga but only in extra material: scales came before the cloths, and are worse than them (or, at least, gold cloths) because cloths are an improved design made by Mu's ancestors (the people of the Mu continent) with better materials (some of the magic metals Mu mentioned when repairing them before).
