He accomplished pretty much a smaller, good guy version of what DIO wanted (power over fate and domination over everyone) and his power became more like DIO's too. And he accomplished this after beating a character who was similar to DIO. It's like Giorno finally completely overcame his supposed "cursed fate" by beating a DIO of his own and becoming what his father was but better.
