Today marks the end of the supremacy of the President of the United States as de facto leader of the world. The Chinese century has officially begun.
If you haven't been following, every five years the CCP holds a congress. The 19th one just finished a few hours ago (it goes for a few days).
Xi opened the congress with a three-and-a-half hour speech on his plans for the future direction of China (you can watch it here: youtube.com/watch?v=Kqn5iI35wEw ). The plan he outlined was him at the top and everyone else below. His goals for the future are total regional and world supremacy. China will be a superpower by 2030 according to him under his rule.
These aren't empty words. He has already been doing this move toward superpower status successfully the past few years, this was more or less just a public declaration of what his policies have been aimed at. He was unanimously cheered by all those present for his vision.
Today at the closing ceremony the CCP congress unanimously decided to enshrine "Xi Jinping thought" into the constitution. This makes Xi's ideas, and Xi himself, into the law of the land. The only other person to be in the constitution this way is Mao. Effectively, now, to go against Xi is to go against the CCP. He has absolute control of a country on the brink of superpower status.
Western experts have already weighed in, and they agree. He is the new most powerful man in the world, and the state he controls will almost certainly become as powerful under his leadership as he claims.
The Economist magazine called this a few weeks ago, by the way. It argued that the world has effectively turned away from Trump and toward Xi, and that Xi would consolidate his power at the congress into an unstoppable position.
We let this happen, you know. We got lazy and fat and gave everything to China.

China is an economic superpower right now for sure. But everyone knows cultural superpowers are the ones that reverberate through history and steer civilization.
It's unlikely China will become one ever. The rest of the world is just not onboard with emulating their society. The probability that China will become a military superpower and retain its economic edge long enough to supplant the US' cultural domination is very low.
Ultimately, the swelling middle class will drive up costs in China flipping it to a service and knowledge economy and it will slow to a leisurely amble.
