"I am the bone of my sword"

Can someone explain what this phrase means?

I am watching Fate and I am really enjoying it but when he says this, I don't understand what it is supposed to mean or signify. Is this a translation that would make more sense in original language (Japanese)?

Thanks!

>what is poetic language
What it means is obvious as fuck. His swords are part of him, and he is part of his swords.

Also, the Japanese poem goes "His body is made out of swords."

Bone is the core that gives skeletal structure.

I am the bone of my sword means that he's the core of the sword

Sword look like boner

Please leave, Sup Forums

he's gay af and thinks about phalli constantly

except the japanese version also had english mixed in

The skeleton system, your bones, acts as the structure for your entire body. Your bones are the core of your body.

If he is the bone of his sword than he is the core of his swords. and since his swords are created via projection magic, he's saying that his swords are a true extension of his body.
This is insanely simple shit, how stupid you must be to need this explained to you is frightening.

Is it really gay if it's canonically a girl's sword that turns him on the most?

You are the bone of autism.

It takes a quite literal meaning by the end of heavens feel.

Thanks Sup Forums, I dont get why i never realized that...

anyways, what does Fate "Stay/Night" mean. I get "Unlimited Blade Works" refers to archer's ultimate, but what does the "stay/Night" and "Heaven's Feel" signify? Obviously, "Zero" is for the prequel I think. Thanks once again

heavens feel is from the heavens feel route. You should read it.

Is there going to be an anime or a movie of it? i heard reading this is NSFW and I don't like that type of anime anyways. I liked Zero the best but everything else looks like fan service other than UBW

"Stay night" is the name of the last act of the firt route

Heaven's Feel is the true name of the holy grail war ritual and of the last route of the VN

HF will be a trilogy that will be released in 2017

You could watch F/SN 2006 if you don't read the VN, it details the first route jut enough for you to understand, just don't expect the same level of work Ufotable put in UBW and F/Z because F/SN 2006 is an old anime made by DEEN

I think it's Engrish from a terrible online translator, and he probably wanted to say Still Night. The slash is there for cool.

Heaven's Feel is a bad pun on "heaven's veil" (the dress Ilya wears for the ritual) and getting a touch of heaven by reaching the root.

ah fuck it, the thread's been on long enough that i can ask this

where do i start off with fate/stay? i checked out vndb but there are two versions, one normal and other realta nua. which one should i choose?

Some people are like edge itself

Realta Nua is sanitized for PS Vita I think? It's also voiced.
The popular version you can find in any torrent website is the original, with RN's voice patch. It also has the option to skip sex.

there is an all ages version of the VN.

That depends. Is futa gay?

The realta nua doesn't have porn retard.

You should read the VN unless you want to get called a secondary every time Sup Forums discusses Fate.

...

Realta Nua is a rerelease with voice acting, updated music and effects, and no H scenes, but there's a patch to add toggles for the H scenes and old music tracks. I'd recommend this, as it's the best of both worlds.

Then shouldn't it be "My sword is my bone"?

Because Engrish.

Japs can't into english, the japanese version that shows up in the VN when archer recites it is:

His body is made out of swords
His blood is of iron and his heart of glass
He survived through countless battles
Not even once retreating
Not even once being understood
He was always alone
Intoxicated with victory in a hill of swords
Thus, his life has no meaning
That body was certainly made out of swords

I don't understand why Japs still can't into English, is sentence structure really that different?

It's completely different. It's a context-based language where changing the ordering of words can change the entire meaning of a line.

No, their teachers are fucking stupid. Even South America is better at teaching other languages.
Hell, even Turkey is.

his swords are made of bones

easy

his bones are made of swords
he creates swords
his bones are the swords he creates

quiite literally

It's because of katakana. Literally who thought it was a good idea to invent a new fucking syllabary to write foreign languages that use alphabets. This is also the reason why even if they learn english their accent is still shit, because thanks to katakana they learn to pronounce the words in japanese and not the actual language they are in.

Accent is almost non-important, apart from telling words apart like "pressure" and "pleasure". Japs are forced to memorize shit and basically don't do communication-based practice, relying instead of YAMATO DAMASHII HARD WORK and shit, which (as any ESL here will tell you) doesn't give you shit.

It's not Engrish, retard. Poetry is all about playing with words in unusual ways to create symbolism.

Good job, you played yourself.
Now you have to either analyze the symbolism or accept that Nasu didn't know English (and still doesn't) so he played around with dictionaries.

Shirou's origin is literally "sword". You have to be retarded to think the UBW chant doesn't make sense.

And that's literally why the japanese chant makes more sense than i am the bone of my sword

That would mean swords are an internal part of him instead of his entire self.
So he then reverses it and calls himself the bone of his sword thereby keeping the organic reference intact while turning himself into a sword.

idk that's how i see it and i'm completely bullshitting

Did you mean "Bane?"

I sure hope Mike signed up for Fall Semester this year.

>except the japanese version also had english mixed in
No it doesn't.

Karada wa tsurugi de dekiteiru

>what is shitty amateurish poetic language
ftfy

Are americans / anglos really as dumb as to not comprehend "I am the bone of my sword"?

The phrase works perfectly in spanish as a poetic chant, which it is in the original japanese. "Yo soy el hueso de mi espada" is perfectly okay in its context.

Btw, I've always interpreted that the "bone of a sword" is due to a poetic reference and the misconception that a sword's blade has a stronger steel core running through the length of the blade which is what, according to this LN-tier author, makes it strong. There's the tang then the forte. All connected through this "bone" or core.
Some swords have a central ridge, with or without fullers, which may point to this notion that the crease makes it stronger or whatever, but it's obviously wrong because pretty much any sword is made of a single piece of cast/forged steel.

Thinking a literal bone would be stronger than steel is utterly retarded.

It's just really abstract in English.

I think you should try ask /lit/ about this poem

You niggers just wanted me to post this shit didn't you

Oh wait this is not the one where he goes nuts.

Even in Japanese it's Fate/Stay Night, roman characters and all. It is probably just engrish that ended up sticking. Maybe it was supposed to be Starry Night or Day Night, we may never know.

Because all these chicks keep asking to stay the night.

I thought it had something to do the idea of fate or destiny

Well yeah, I'm saying he wanted to say something and when he translated his title to English it came out dumb, but he didn't know at the time and so it came to be that way. By now he probably knows and just laughs it off.
I said it's Still Night because some scenes both in FSN and Tsukihime go for that oppressive and tense feeling of an uneventful night that is about to become the scenario of horror and battle.

>Fate/Stay Night
>Stay
>ステイ

>Fate/Starry Night
>Starry
>スタリ

>Fate/Day Night
>Day
>デイ

Those words are way too different to be Engrish, as you can see from the katakana. If you knew even a tiny bit about Engrish, you'd know that.

kana capcha on Sup Forums when?

Apologies, accidentally set the thing to half-width katakana

>Stay
>ステイ

>Starry
>スタリ

>Day
>デイ

You're thinking it backwards, user. Let's say he has Still Night in jap, or Quiet Night, who the fuck knows.
So Nasu gets a dictionary.
>Still (jap): To stay motionless
Good. Now he gets a jap->eng dictionary.
>Still (jap): Stay, still, motionless, inmobile, stationary, etc.
Well shit. So many words. So he chooses the first one.
Yes, Stay is a verb. That's the thing: in jap, you often make adjectives with verbs. Like Toki wo kakeru shoujo: a meaning-based translation is "The girl who leapt through time", but in jap the phrase "toki wo kakeru" is working as an adjective: "the time-jumping girl".
It would be easy for Nasu not to understand how different adjectives and verbs are in English.

Nothing more edgy than the country of Chile

I think the direct translation from the Japanese original is "Nasu is a hack"

disclaimer: I really enjoy fate

Thank you for your psychoanalysis

>"I am the bone of my sword"

Bones are structure, bones are support. Bones are also slaves (in a poetic sense) to muscles and the nervous system.

EMIYA (bone) is a slave to his sword (muscle) which is driven by his desire to be a hero (nervous system).

No.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifleman's_Creed

>Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless

Now apply this concept to swords and the OP phrase makes sense.

>This is insanely simple shit, how stupid you must be to need this explained to you is frightening.

It's pretty obvious op is bored and baiting.

It's called that because Shirou's time with Saber comes to an end when the sun rises in the final act. The slash indicates that what the two of them want and what Fate has dictated for them are irreconcilable. You're not meant to know what the title means until the game ends. Complicated stuff, I know.

Yes. Nips are shit because they insist on using katakana everywhere instead of proper roman alphabet like most of the world.
The use of roman alphabet is confined in classroom situations only and even then, it's not supported with proper use of English.

Most of their highschoolers can't differentiate between
"Bowling" and "Boring", "First" and "Fast", "Later" and "Letter", etc.

>context-based language where changing the ordering of words can change the entire meaning of a line
You are on Mount Stupid right now. By your logic, English is context-based since "Shirou jackhammered Rin" and "Rin jackhammered Shirou" mean different things. On the other hand, "士郎が凛をジャックハンマした" and "凛を士郎がジャックハンマした" have exactly same meaning.

Why are there so many Fate threads of late? It's horrendous.

And americunts cant differentiate between "your" and "you're".

I could care less about American English.

>could care less
>thinks your vs you're is only relevant in Am. English
kill you're self my man

I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

>Poetry
Those hackneyed verses are nowhere near poetry, at best it's doggerel.
Only an ESL could think stanzas obviously created through the heavy use of a Nip/Eigo dictionary, is poetry.

This actually made me hyperventilate.

He's not the one that started the your/you're bit.
