Walgreens to Offer Narcan in 45 States OTC

Which 5 states are the holdouts? Why?

--

In more than 8,000 pharmacies across the U.S., anyone will now be able to walk in and buy the most successful emergency overdose treatment available.

The Walgreens chain will carry a form of naloxone, a drug that can quickly reverse opioid overdoses, the company announced Tuesday.

Known commercially as Narcan, the drug is administered through a nasal spray and is an FDA-approved form of naxolone.

The drug will be available to patients and caregivers without a prescription in 45 states. Walgreens said it is "eager and willing" to work with more states to make naloxone easier to obtain.

The number of overdose deaths involving opioids has quadrupled since 1999, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC).

The agency reported that 91 Americans die every day from an opioid overdoses.

bump

I mean lets just say I am a heroin addict, is this not going to increase my risky behavior? Oh all good my homie will have Narc on him if I overdose, its all good lets have some fun.

This is fucking dumb, and mostly a waste. 9 times out of ten a junkie OD pulled back from the brink of death by narcan only to OD again later that week.

>Which 5 states are the holdouts?
Probably just where there are no Walgreen's. I think this is a terrible move. Anyone overdosing on a drug like this should receive absolutely no medical treatment. Not Narcan, not hospital care, nothing. They should be left to die or survive by their own force of will. These people are a detriment to society and nothing is lost by their deaths.

Unintended consequences - this could encourage more people to try it for the first time, and more people to try bigger doses, assuming it works reliably from an overdose

We can only hope user. The world needs more dead junkies.

It probably won't, read some stories about what it's like to take narcan, it's pretty brutal

In Vancouver we call it yo-yoing...crash a bit chew some fent and have a buddy bring you back

No one really knows what you're taking except whoever made it. Sometimes one dose won't be enough to keep them alive to treated.

Narcan saved my elderly dad's(ex-nfl from the 50s)life. His pain management clinic fucked up, didn't weigh him/dose him right and his fentanyl was too high. He straight up overdosed one night. He survived because the paramedics gave him the narcan. I wished I had it on hand it took the ambulance a while to get here. That clot busting shot they use for strokes should be over the counter too.

>You get too fucked up
>Other tweakers freak out think you're doing and give you spray
>Your high is now ruined and you cannot get high for many hours now
>You stab tweaker in the eye with an ice pick for doing you like this
The circle of life

>assuming it works reliably from an overdose
I know people who have had to use it 3 times in one weekend. It is reliable for bringing people back to life. Its a shame really. I hate to say it, but some of these people would be better off dead.

No, Narcan for opiate addicts is like throwing boiling water on a wound. You do not want to touch Narcan if you are an opiate addict, unless you think you really are about to die, otherwise it's extremely painful.

>opioid epidemic

>give people option to "prevent overdose"

>get high again

>repeat

what the fuck is the point?

A FUCKING LEAF

This! Most addicts would rather die than go through withdrawals. Narcan totally neutralizes the effects of opiods in your system which causes immediate pain and withdrawal and you cannot get high until the narcan is out of your system. What junkie wants that?

Let's be honest here, we all know it was red states full of inbred christian redneck hillbillies that blocked this.

this fentanyl shit sounds dangerous as fuck how is it still allowed?

why doesnt anyone ever point out the source of the opioid addiction?

doctors who suck the cocks of big pharma. someone has to push these drugs, you know?

I'm sure they could handle it, gotta be a pretty big guy to shoot dope

>use it 3 times in one weekend.
I don't believe you. in fact, I know you're full of shit, bc after the 2nd OD they'd hold you as danger to self. Narcan is having every cell in the body turn on you at once, while pouring sweat from every pore and shitting yourself at the same time.

This is fucking useless. If they gave a shit, just let the pharmacies sell methadone/suboxone OTC.

I have no idea. Dad had the time released patches. He lost weight the older he got(Alzheimer's and Dementia) and the pain clinic never re adjusted his dose. Fentanyl almost killed him. He wasn't a junkie. Just a 80yr old ex pro ball player getting ready for bed.

degenerates

>it's extremely painful.
How so

No one is forcing anyone to take them.

>texas bans dildoes

>His pain management clinic fucked up, didn't weigh him/dose him right and his fentanyl was too high
No, your father is a drug addict and either ate his patch or the sub-lingual from a very corrupt doctor and ODed bc he's a drug addict. A legit "pain management" does not 'fuck up a fent dose." Doesn't happen. They don't even like to give it to cancer patients, the patches, to tamper you really have to know what you're doing.

...

Seems like it is rarely given outside the hospital and strictly dosed. The problem is synthetic fentayl is coming from China and heroin is being cut with it. Again, no one knows what they're taking.

>doctors never make mistakes

I'm a security guard working graveyard shift in downtown Salt Lake City.

I've had to call 911 after stumbling upon a non-responsive junkie twice.

Only a matter of time until I'm issued narcan and have to do resuscitation myself. Fucking gross, I don't get paid enough to touch HIV ghouls.

but you need a RX to get them (in most cases)

some people NEED them, but they should never be a first line of defense.

it kills the high which wouldnt be painful for a non druggie but for them its terrible someone mightve posted above.

why the fuck would they bother cutting it with heroin.. heroin is weaker. way weaker.

>doctors never make mistakes
With fent? In micrograms? In a time-released patch? No. A nigger nurse dosing a patient in hospital/nursing home makes mistakes. A doctor and thenpharm dosing in micrograms with fent does not, because it's his ass in jail or paying a lot of shekels if it gets fucked up.

Now compare that to the lethal dose of Ricin

mmmmm that pure carfentanil crystal
but really only poor people and lowerclass faggots die or even get addicted to this good stuff, I love opiates, sucks queers had to ruin it.

so what actually happens when one overdoses on this stuff

I dont do drugs nor plan to so this is all foreign to me

Kek that's just some white shit for show

>Moral hazard
>In economics, moral hazard occurs when one person takes more risks because someone else bears the cost of those risks. A moral hazard may occur where the actions of one party may change to the detriment of another after a financial transaction has taken place.

Or the other way, to make the heroin last longer.

Plenty of doctors have given dangerous drugs or done risky surgical procedures and fucked up and killed their patients accidentally. It's ridiculous to think just because he is giving fentanyl a doctor could never screw up e.g. be on drugs, be distraught or distracted, be over tired, etc., and fuck shit up.

lol, okay bud... When a doctor would rather give you opiods rather than other non addictive meds or send you to physio, massages and the like.

Physio worked great for me, but it was really expensive and if I fell all the work physio did for me was set back.

Now i'd say fentynal and hydromorphone are ruining my life little by little

you're not very smart. Were it any other drug, it's perfectly possible, esp with AA and niggers. with a fent patch, the time release is built in to avoid ODs so you need to either chew the patch or extract the shit with boiling water to get a big enough dose to OD.
t. medschool fag

Respiratory depression, they basically stop breathing. If you take your first vicodin and lie down, you'll most likely fall asleep. Harder opioids do the same but faster and more severe.

Heroin epidemics used to come in waves once one group of junkies OD'd we would then wait for it to start in another generation.

Now with this shit we will have a permanent Heroin problem.

THANK YOU WHITEY SOCIALISTS AND YOUR COMMUNIST LOCAL GOVERNMENTS.

The Filipino model should be the world standard in dealing with drug problems.

Opiates are the best fags and niggers ruin everything

Coumadin is pretty dangerous, remember when doses were fucked up for babies a few years ago?

Then you shouldn't have started taking them. No sympathy for weak cunts.

niiiice, something to snort when i've had too much to snort

Fuck you no he wasn't a junkie and pain management can and did fuck up. He was ex NFl had 3 vertibre fused and wired together and had 3 hip replacement surgeries(one ceramic hip was infected). He was doing ESI cortisone shots for more years than you've been alive. Those shots deteriorated his hips to dust. That's why they put him on the fentanyl. He had zero control over his medication due to the Alzheimer's and Dementia. His meds were in a lock box. No way he was got into them. Some clinics and Dr's suck. He literally saw his actual doctor twice in a years time every other month he saw some dude basically the Dr's medical bitch. That clinic fucked up. Gutenberg is the Dr's name.

>When a doctor would rather give you opiods rather than other non addictive meds or send you to physio,
Maybe bc ZOG pays for 11 aircraft carriers and 7,000 nukes to keep your faggot loving asses from getting eaten alive by the chinks, so you can afford shit like that since it's free? In ZOG, you go to work or you starve.

But they did screw up. They did not monitor his weight, and as his weight went down over time, they did not know to decrease his dosage (according to the guy whose dad had this issue above.)

So just because they thought they had the right dose, it sounds like they overlooked weight change as a potential factor and eventually gave him too high of a dose.

>the best

substance abuse is bad, user.

LEAF

Exactly what happened. After the incident, we bitched out the Dr. she knew she fucked up. Coincidentally every visit after that we only saw the other Dr's in the office. She didn't want anything to do with us.

Drug abuse isn't a matter of being weak willed. A lot of the time it's the environment, or traumatic experiences at key points in development.

This has nothing to do with race, or religion. This is about people trying to cope with difficult times.

I lost pretty much my entire family over the last six years. I smoke weed to get by and not want to kill myself every day. I just landed a really good job working from home for decent pay. I want to move out of where I'm living now because it's like prison. I'm working towards doing that. Once I get a new place to myself, I will stop smoking, because I will not have the daily stressors that I do now.

well fuck, that got long winded.

i'm just saying, this drug shit hits home and it hits hard.

well, then you should have sued jansen or the PA (they can't change or write opiates now, maybe they could years ago) because first time I've heard of of that, and I'm doing residency in a shitty area and have seen every variation of od, never that one.

If you give them the narcan, will they die?

substance abuse you user faggot ?

My pain manager recently wanted me to get Narcan with my oxycodone prescription, but it was insanely expensive. Also, there'd never be a situation where I'm taking oxycodone and can be saved with Narcan, since I don't take anything around anyone. I'm glad it's gonna be easier to get, I guess.

Also hanging out with shitty people, or I'm the only one who thinks it's hard to believe people go from pills to buying heroin on the street without any problem.

I hear it would be extremely painful

That's like saying, "I can relate, I drink soda and get jittery sometimes". Marijuana is nothing compared to fentanyl or heroin.

For what it's worth, I'm not willing to do anything harder than weed. I don't need to get hooked on the shit in OP and become a statistic. Fuck that, I got goals.

Deflect responsibility. We understand.

No, they just go into instant withdrawals, which is an incredibly jarring feeling. Withdrawals come on slowly as your body metabolizes the drug, so jumping from high as fuck to full-blown withdrawals is an awful experience. Many users just go out and try to take more to kill the withdrawal and end up dying when the Narcan wears off.

I'll admit, I didn't quite understand the context of the thread at first. It's pretty late and I'm pretty tired.

>as his weight went down over time
weight loss would be offset by tolerance. Unless it was some sort of chronic respiratory they didn't check for. Fent is handled even in hospital like a WMD. My roomate od'ed on a demerol shot in the back room (he just started platic surgery in miami, keep that in mind if anyone needs an operation) and couldn't get his hands on it.

They should just let pharmcies give out methadone and suboxone as do in some euro nations bc it's not going to stop. You cut off people from doctors, they will get it on the street. Entire thing is going to get worse.

is this mexicos fault?

Gateway drug, hello. Soon you'll be sucking dick for crack.

4u

Imagine the face of chinese lab workers reading americans ODs in the thousands to fentanyl.

Reminds them of their opium dens. Surely its not a problem only in the US

yeah i've seen a few people shooting up in broad daylight in my city in the last few months, lots of passersby, never saw anyone do that unless it was real dark and late at night

Yeah all these people calling out drug addicts for degeneracy are posting on Sup Forums. They presumably have their own degenerate coping mechanisms like anime porn etc.

>Drug abuse isn't a matter of being weak willed.
I fell into this trap as I had drug abuse issues in my late teen/early twenties. I was the first of my close group of friends to pull myself out if it. I had one friend who would always talk the talk about getting his shit together but continuously slid further backward. I judged his lack of will pretty harshly and lost a lot of respect for him during this time. However I later found out he had a serious personality disorder that was manifesting itself at that time. It was too harsh of me to blame his willpower when he was being ravaged by such a horrible disease and I feel terrible about it now.

>Work from home with decent pay.
What job is that user? I have been looking for a job to work from home for awhile.

I think a big part of it is that any White now turns on the news or looks at a website to have the Jews tell him how evil he is. People can only take so much. The rage that would be going into a revolution is now going into opiates.

well when the media messages people get are "the world is on the brink of nuclear war" and "climate change will destroy the earth", people end up not caring because they think there is no future. If there is not future, why not just get fucked up?

Was it easy to OD smoking opium?

Crazy ancap here, but I wouldn't give two fucks if they sold straight up heroin.

That's okay. I was 18 once too, you'll grow out of it.

Good point, I think we should save people if possible, but we should not encourage poor behavior by handing this out like candy.

>muh chronic pain/surgeries
>much whatever the fuck disease

No pain no gain faggots

t. former chronic pain (((sufferer)))

To expand, unless you are a terminal cancer patient, ie expected to die in a few weeks, in which case, be degenerate and get as high as fuck in you finals days, there is absolutely no excuse to become addicted to (((opiates))).
Man the fuck up and deal with fucking life.

>No pain no gain
I bet after 15 minutes of working you over with a crowbar, I could change that.

>former
>chronic

Those two are mutually exclusive.

It's very rare to get addicted to prescription opiates if you take them right anyway. Most people who say they got addicted to them are just lying, they were using heroin to begin with, and most of the rest abused their prescription.

HUGE push for this in the last few months.
Someone is making a SHIT TON of money.

Even fake stories about junkies using narcan to extend drug parties, which is pure horseshit.

>It's very rare to get addicted to prescription opiates
is this based on pharma company stats?

No, I work with oncologists for my research. And I didn't say it was rare to get addicted to prescription opiates, I said it was rare for that to happen if you took them correctly, IE, as prescribed. Almost addiction to prescription opiates is due to intentionally taking more than is perscribed

gee and guess who’ll buy them all
heroin addicts and dealers

Fair enough, should've clarified, former (((prescribed opiate))) user, and life long chronic pain faggot. Rather live with the daily pain than check out from society on warm fuzzy feeling happy pills. Have friends who have killed themselves going down the heroin road after prescribed opiates from sprained ankles and other stupid bullshit. The nature of opiates is highly physically addicting.

It is the nature of opiate painkillers, physically addictive, no matter the mental state of someone is (worse for those with addictive personalities) even when taken the (((right way))) there needs to be more education about the physical effects of these drugs ie. the difference of real pain and pain from the inevitable withdrawal. One close friend and another person I knew (both dead from heroin OD) were first introduced to opiates for minor shit, one a sprained ankle, the other had his wisdom teeth removed. Were they both mentally weak faggots, probably, but the problem is real.

Pure bullshit. Narcan ruins your high and wastes your money. No real junkie uses this shit by choice. This post is by a shill.

The right way as in, take the recommended dose and not half of the script all at once. I got hyrocodone for my wisdom teeth extraction, didn't abuse it and so I did not get addicted. Didn't even finish it, which was good, because I was able to give the rest to my old dog when she broke her hip

Some people are extremely sensitive to pain, others are less so. How is a doctor to know which of his patients are feeling more real pain than others? they can't, so they go with conservative pain med prescription doses based on an average, this results in some people with acute pain being woefully underprescribed so they take more to cope with their pain. Doctors are wary of patients abusing he drugs so they resist upping the doses, assuming people who say they are still in pain are making it up (some are, many may not be.)

Another bullshitter.

I'm a former heroin addict with 6 months clean and you hormone faggots who have never done drugs saying oh they deserve to die we shouldn't give them narcan are so dumb. Imagine your mom or dad or whoever you care about most was addicted and od would u not want to save them???

Normie faggots*
