Manuals are annoying as hell to drive in traffic and in almost every single case now way slower than automatics. It just gets worse as you add in more and more HP to a car.
Every single modern manual driver thinks they are pro rally car level and wringing out an extra 2% performance and blah blah blah. The reality is they tend to be 10-20% slower at everything. It's just a dead tech now.
I can see getting one in a classic muscle car from before 1973 but that's about it.
I drove a manual truck for years and it's far from the impossible life skill modern day people try to pitch it as for some reason. Almost any woman from in their late 60s to early 70s can still drive a manual too, being they grew up with them.

the shunt of the hi-gear can run on it's own

you won't fuck the main gears if you do it

CVT is absolutely terrible. It has the same power loss, if not worse, as an automatic and belt slippage under load as it becomes worn out or exceeds it's capabilities like a clutch. It's the worse fucking automobile transmission developed in years and should have stayed on snowmobiles.

CVT is more efficient than automatics but less than a manual. The advantage over the manual is it stays in the sweet spot of the torque curve the entire time during acceleration, as opposed to the manual moving in and out of it as the gears change. physicsforums.com/threads/cvt-efficiency.304935/

I backed up and down the driveway a few times, and that was pretty much enough to start taking it around the block. Some people are just retarded about it, but all it takes is practice to stop stalling and jerking around once you get the hang of it.

My lesson consisted of: always move one foot down while the other foot moves up. And all of a sudden I was throwing it in 2nd mid corner without even thinking about it because that's what felt right.

it is not so good in a heavy vehicle which creates large amounts of friction in the clutch which means heat as well as 4 stroke motors which have a relatively straight linear torque curve

On a flat surface.. they can achieve incredible mpg.. I recently got a car with paddle shifters and once you get used to keeping the rpms low it's really hard to readjust
