It's true, the full versions are often worse. They make it thinner to stretch out the introduction of elements, and many of the great build ups end up disappearing and the would be powerful parts end up flat and empty. A great example is Motteke Sailor Fuku from Lucky Star.
There are many full versions that are good too, but it's disappointing when they are worse. Often they are even better than the short version too
