What do you think a lance is?

>spear
>lance
What's the fucking difference anyway?

You actually think Anno cares, don't you?

> OP is homosexual
> call him a faggot

He didn't; the translators did to match if with christian mythos.

The terms are literally synonyms and were historically used synonymously. The idea that a lance is mostly used by cavalry is a modern one. The origin of the word, the Roman "lancea" for example was a javelin type weapon. The word spear is Germanic in origin and there are plenty of Middle High German texts, where the knights refer to their lances as "sper".

A spear is a staff with a blade added to the end to make the weapon more flexible, OP is not wrong.

A lance is used for jousting.
A spear is used by footsoldiers.
Big difference.

A spear can be called a lance. A lance cannot be called a spear.

A lance is usually a spear, but a spear isn't necessarily a lance.
Anno used the term yari which is the weapon used of both both foot soldiers and by riders.

And it's accidentally appropriate since Christian mythology does the same shit. The Holy Lance, Holy Spear, Lance of Longinus, and Spear of Destiny are the same thing.

Longinus pierced Jesus with his lance, so they rolled with the term lance instead of spear cause muh symbolism.

>A lance is used for jousting
Are you pretending to be retarded?

you have it backwards senpai

>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance

>make a ladder
>call it a stepladder

they cannot keep getting away with it

are you?

You're all retards, it's a fucking bident. Count the prongs.

Spears are pole arms with some kind of point at at least one end, though usually just one end. They can be long or short, and the bladed part can be small or large. A "short spear" is usually around 3 to 4 feet long, while a very long spear can be over 10 feet long (these are commonly called pikes and were used exclusively in mass formations).

A lance is a spear designed for use by mounted warriors. What most people think of when they hear "lance" is the tourney lance designed for use in jousting competitions which is made of wood and designed to break when it hits a target.

Lances were designed for mounted combat. Your own fucking definition just said jousting is a sport developed by knights to practice this form of combat. It's likely the type of lance you're thinking of is not even a real one but one of the fake lances they used only for jousting.

(You)

Is this a good time to be pondering the great spear/lance debate?

A weapon with a long shaft and a pointy end strictly used by cavalry, can normally be tucked in for a full body charge which obliterated any infantry it charges into

You could 'technically' call the guys in the mechs 'mounted' so it could be correct in that way

It's two structures wound around eachother, it doesn't have prongs.

What is the ship of thebes?

if I tape two spoons together it's not still two spoons, it's a bispoon. If he have a threesome with two hot chicks, same deal, yo. Parts of the whole.

>draw a mecha
>call it an artificial human
Seriously?

>draw a little bitch
>call it Shinji

wtf anno

>Be a retard
>Say your not
Seriously?

>What is the ship of thebes?
A non-sequitur malaprop.

Well I just googled malaprop means and you can fuck off. The ship's port of origin is irrelevant.

>ship of thebes
It's 'Ship of Theseus' you snickers.

nice rei watercolour, did you paint that?

Anno thought 'children' was a singular

>ship of thebes
What's next, lance of longitude?

That's a digital drawing you mong

>I've memorized all the words in the world that start with th

stop tipping around here

It's actually a Bident.

Nah man that's a javelin

>make a sentient being of unknown nature made by aliens from far away in the universe
>call it a spear

They should have called it the Strange Object that Reacts to Seeds of Life and Can Break A.T. Fields.

Many people like to use the "Lance of Longinus" because of the alliteration.
Though there are just as many, if not more, references to the thing as the "spear of Longinus."
And in most translations of the Bible, the weapon that the Roman soldier who stabbed Jesus to make sure he was dead is usually translated as "spear."
