If the Army was proud of warcrimes, it wouldn't court martial, punish, and dishonorably discharge the soldiers committing them. Getting a dishonorable pretty much fucks you employment prospects as bad or worse than being a violent ex-con even if you got a dishonorable just for getting fat or something harmless like that.

Chapter 18 Discharges (ABCP Failure) are always honorable.
If you get a dishonorable discharge, it's because you did something against the law.
If you're just a bad soldier, you'll get a general discharge.
The fact that they were able to have gotten away with it for so long after the fact says a lot about the Army, especially considering one of the rapists admitted his crime to an NCO nearly imminently after the fact.
