>watch kotonoha no niwa >its shit with good animation
>watch 5 wallpapers per second >its shit with good animation
>watch kimi no na wa >guess what
Why do i fall for this shit over and over again? Why can't there be a movie like this but with actuall payoff like a kiss, hugs, post-credit happy ending scene or maybe even a fucking sex scene, go full vanilla hentai and make it cute, ANYTHING.
Why can't we have nice things? I'm so sick of it holy shit.
Shinkai doesn't know how to write a relationship with closure because he's never been in one himself
Isaac Butler
I guess Shinkai was rejected his whole life and can only make the same thing over and over.
Easton Ortiz
Why are you such a pleb?
Gavin Campbell
Shinkai is a hack.
Adam Sanders
fpbp
NEETfags still don't understand this though. It's okay to have a bittersweet ending.
Grayson Rivera
Ow the edge. By the way, animation is at least as important as "muh plot".
Christopher Sanders
Are you blind? All of Shinkai movies have had awful animation. Only Kimi no na Wa has been great in the animation department.
Charles Jackson
Not three times in a row.
Alexander Gray
There was a payoff, but you seem to have wanted it to turn into a romance movie right when it's about to end. How about no?
Gabriel Torres
how about you fuck off to mal faggot nigger
Nicholas Nelson
We don't know if their relationship 'worked out' or if there even was one. This open ended resolution is way more interesting than spelling out how it turned out.
Elijah White
Careful, at this moment you cannot talk shit about Shinkai since his latest flick is BTFOing latest KyoAni's film in terms of attracting the normalfags to the theaters, so Sup Forums is celebrating and has Shinkai as its God right now.
Adam Peterson
>there are people who are okay with this ending >there are people who watch movies of this kind and don't want romance to happen
Why watch it in the first place then? Are you all cucks or what?
Xavier Watson
The worst part is that this time they actually seem to end up together, we just don't get to see things like them running towards each other, hugging while falling on their knees, completely psychologically breaking and crying from joy, kissing, holding hands, get to know each other better, cute awkward dates, marrying, sex, getting kids, a scene with Yotsuha as a cool aunt, living happily ever after.
I know it's clichee and stuff, but there is literally not a single anime that shows all this stuff and it really pisses me off.
Hunter Davis
everyone knows a good story never concludes
Jacob Clark
Honestly, Shinkai is more concerned with conveying the poetry and details rather than with the overarching plot itself. I've only watched 5cm Per Second and Garden of Words, but his style is very slice-of-life with trying to convey the emotion associated with various common moments and struggles in our lives.
The point isn't that the main character finds love, or that whatever happens to him throughout the film is even important. The point is that we undergo these struggles, and that the nature of life is neutral, random, and sometimes sad.
IMO Shinkai doesn't even compare to many of Ghibli's works though
It's mildly amusing, but nothing special. I'm saying this as someone who likes the movie overall.
Anthony Kelly
Kill yourself cuckposter
Owen Reyes
>It's okay to have a bittersweet ending. Kimi no na wa did not have a bittersweet ending. Watch the movie you're shitposting about.
Aiden Martin
Well, there goes all of my interest.
Gabriel Gonzalez
>I did not like the ending so the movie is shit
It because of people like you that 99% american movies are copy-paste cancer
Josiah Williams
>Only Kimi no na wa Pleb, go watch Garden of Words.
Christian Butler
>implying the movies in the OP are not all literally copy-paste shit
Carson Lewis
I felt happy, yet hollow at the end of it. Mitsuha and Taki deserve a better end than what an emotionally-stunted troglodyte like Shinkai can muster.
Aiden Hernandez
The irony xD
Joseph James
I think I'm the only one here who has no problem with the couple not get together, my problem is the romanticized tone of Shinkai.
I find it all so, I dunno, pretentious.
Aaron Hughes
>The point isn't that the main character finds love, or that whatever happens to him throughout the film is even important. The point is that we undergo these struggles, and that the nature of life is neutral, random, and sometimes sad. ok, but how we follow these struggles if the characters are so flat? how will I care for what they supposedly feel, if they don't have enough substance?
Jackson White
I was going to watch this tonight but now I'm reconsidering. Should I watch it?
Ethan James
sauce
Connor Perry
Because a retarded 'happily ever after' disney end would only cheapen the emotional content of the story. The point is for the sympathy to actually fucking stick with you not to just wash away in a flood of impotent cliches.
Joseph Rivera
Shinkai has a wife. Infact she voiced the girl in Voices from a Distant Star
Luke Hernandez
Arranged marriages are more like a partnership than a relationship
Christopher Ward
You are supposed to relate to the feeling itself, that's what tries to convey, that those feelings are universal.
Sure, trying to relate to an abandoned alien/immortal vampire needs character developement because of the extraordinary conditions they fpund themselves into, but Shinkai works are meant to be relatable because they are assumed to have been experienced by almost everyone.
Owen Murphy
>"THIS MOVIE IS SHIT BECAUSE THE STORY DIDN'T GO HOW I WANTED IT TO!"
You sir, are an idiot.
Luke Butler
>random body switch through time and space >muh meteor >muh memories are gone >"I LOVE YOU" >a-at least we saved half the town!!!
It was fucking garbage m8
Charles Johnson
Why does it even need to show that stuff? We already know it's gonna happen so no need to hammer it in. It'd be superfluous user. The movie ended perfectly.
David Gomez
I don't agree with this because feelings don't exist without people. are the people who dictate the feelings. so, if the character is just a plot device, I don't think the feeling he wants to express will be intense enough. and that's why I just can not enjoy shinkai's movies. they lack meat, depth.
Asher Gutierrez
There is something called "satisfying pay-off", you probably never heard of it.
I just feel like i wasted my time watching this movie because it had no pay-off at all.
Jace Taylor
The Japanese way is... the process of things... not the end result... like Americans... *puffs cigarette*
In France... Manga is the 9th art!
Jordan Torres
>5 wallpapers per second
guess who spat out soda after reading that?
Landon Wright
>feelings dont exist without people top kek
Jason Smith
>no. 1 movie in Japan >no. 1 anime in MAL
So this is the power of memes... Not bad.
Easton Jones
>IMO Shinkai doesn't even compare to many of Ghibli's works though Why even compare ComixWave and Ghibli? They're both WAY too different.
Brandon Morris
Keit-ai would have been a far better movie than what we got desu
Daniel White
They only seem flat because you're too autistic to understand human emotions.
If this movie actually had real human emotions they would literally be fucking most of the time.
No sane human acts like these autistic anime characters that only look at each other and blush all the time.
Brayden Turner
I was satisfied. I didn't need to see them fuck in his flat after meeting. Getting to imagine what could happen to them after is half the enjoyment. For example in kotonoha no niwa you never see what happens between the student and the teacher after the movie. How would you feel knowing the teacher was fubar by a meteor months after they say goodbye?
Isaiah Butler
It's already a meme, so you don't need to post it anymore.
there is no message without a transmitter. I understand human emotions, but those portrayed by Makoto Shinkai are too artificial because the characters and their relationships are shallow.
Camden Carter
And so in your futile assertions you demonstrate the very inability you're trying to denounce. You can't into feelings and you can't into logic either. Good job.
Parker Johnson
If you're dwelling on the character and not their circumstances, to the point of being blinded to the latter, then you're basically entirely media illiterate. I assume you're a "high functioning" autistic that takes some presumptuous pride in being able to try and draw a line between yourself and the stereotypical autistic. You're not as good at blending in as you think you are.
and ironically the emotional communications you think aren't shallow are actually the most superficial spoonfeeding, as indicated by your inability to read the most simple of well written characterization; that is, character empathy thru full medium narration and not just explicitly stated and verbal/textual.
Easton Hernandez
>Why can't there be a movie like this but with actuall payoff like a kiss, hugs, post-credit happy ending scene or maybe even a fucking sex scene, go full vanilla hentai and make it cute, ANYTHING. How sexually frustrated are you?
>inb4 projecting
Thomas Hernandez
I see shinkai still thinks he's the master of story telling and refuses to get someone to write a good story for him.
Luke Collins

Nigga what? Women IRL aren't as DTF as they're portrayed in shoehorned sex scenes in Hollywood movies. And Japanese people in particular are VERY conservative when it comes to sex. I love how you accuse Shinkai characters of being shallow without giving convincing reasons why you think so.
Jayden Ortiz
Isn't it just weird that there is not a single non-hentai and non-gore anime that has a uncensored sex scene in it?
Why can't they just include it as something normal and natural, as part of life.
Jason Price
>Women IRL aren't as DTF as they're portrayed in shoehorned sex scenes in Hollywood movies You have no fucking idea user
>Japanese people in particular are VERY conservative when it comes to sex Conservative and autistic are two different things
Jonathan Taylor
People were hailing him as the second miyakazi after his first feature film for a little bit. That sort of went away really quick
Ethan Stewart
I've watched all of Shinkai's works, even though I really like them, having all of your works end on a bittersweet note kind of dulls you. I watched "Kimi no na wa" fully expecting a bittersweet, open end, and guess what I got?
Kumo no Mukou is still his best movie
Eli Baker
>hurr this movie is shit >3bi Yen in sales so far
Oliver Bailey
>memekoto shinkai's movies >good I don't know what you expected desu
Lucas White
Shinkai is a terrible one-trick pony.
Dylan Peterson
I don't get it. Are Jap men this afraid of women? I honestly feel bad for Japanese girls.
Liam Foster
>sales = quality Hate this meme.
Cameron Barnes
>5 wallpapers per second
For a second there, I thought you were referring to Trigger.
Ayden Lee
>this is what contrarians believe
Jose Allen
Real life doesn't work like that, I'd rather see a Shinkai move about kyrgyz brinde kidnapping.
Gabriel Garcia
>I love how you accuse Shinkai characters of being shallow without giving convincing reasons why you think so. they are flat because they are just tools. tools for melodramatic voice-overs and cheesy monologues. so it's extremely difficult (at least for me) believe the film express genuine emotions, since the characters talk, think and act in an very idealized way.
Angel Wright
Shinkai’s films are not plot-driven, but character-driven, because it is about what they are feeling. But, since the characters are dull, everything feels kind of fake.
Cameron Baker
Shinkai isn't a good scriptwriter. But both him and Hosoda are far better at it than Miyazaki.
Ayden Taylor
Kimi no na wa is the greatest anime of all time and if you don't think so then your just a contrarian faggot that need to kill yourself.
Asher Harris
>they don't remember anything I'm mad. Not even gonna finish this.
Michael Cox
remember the good old days when shinkai just ripped off his plot off a timeless classic and there was a reason why it was mostly monologues (he was a shit 2d animator, but decent 3d animator)
Mason Mitchell
>watching anything from Makoto "The Hack" Shinkai
Carter Diaz
>mfw we will get another movie with this formula in a few years >people will watch it anyway and call it a masterpiece
When will they learn
Sebastian Moore
>people are still confusing art direction with animation Aight then.
Lincoln Long
The first part of 5cps is still one of the best things I've ever watched. That train scene felt like I was there.
Easton Perez
>oh, my letter >cries dear lord, user
Matthew Martinez
Do you have a heart made out of stone?
Brandon Bailey
do you live in a soap opera?
Bentley Jones
No, I just live vicariously through anime characters.
Jace Kelly
That's 5 reactionfaces per second.
Connor Cooper
One Piece: Gold sold like hotcakes, but it's an absolutely horrible movie.
These movies are also the reason why the anime, which is actually animating the original and interesting source material, have such a horrible budget and terrible quality.
Aaron Myers
One Piece Gold is a movie for kids you idiot.
Juan Parker
its fucking 6 billion already you shit head
Jaxson Taylor
>a less-than-ideal, bittersweet ending is bad I came out of The Place Promised in Our Early Days feeling more happy and satisfied than 5cm/s, but I'd be mental if I said 5cm/s wasn't the better film of the two.
