Even if the Allies had killed Hitler in a raid they still would have told the world that Hitler killed himself, because it creates the psychological effect of the epitome of the ideology losing faith in the ideology. If he had died shooting his pistol at advancing Ally soldiers there would have been decades of violent Nazi resurgence because the idea would not have died it would have been given a hero. However, if he killed his dog then himself it is a much less inspiring picture to the masses.
