Inb4 he’s called a nigger.

What does inb4 mean?

Very unusual character, I met a man who worked as a merc in Angola, he had a good sense of humor. "I've always wanted to go, but it's hard to get a visa." "It's easy in a chopper, user!"

Savimbi was a rogue CIA agent, I think.

>train in China with the likes of ZANU and ZAPU
>start out as not only a communist, but a Maoist
>amass a mercenary army against the Portuguese
>for some odd reason, immediately latch on to Reagan-type politics and conservatism
>in spite of this, there is no split in UNITA's leadership or structure, it only grows
>mercs probably knew from the start

Like Katanga, and somewhat like Rhodesia (although Rhodies were mainly doing their own thing after UDI), the world powers wanted an end to colonialism, but still wanted a commonwealth. France still basically has Mali and CAR because of this, and China, who trained the rebels, has a lot of influence - they're the new 'soft colonialists.'

I'm excited though, UNITA just lost with like 48% of the vote, just weeks ago. They could have been a ruling party. I know I'm not merc material, I'm too fucking skinny, but I'd hope there was some use for me in Angola. They could be the Dubai of Africa.

And a stepping stone for Biafra

well, he is in fact a nigger. the fact that he was fighting Portuguese colonizers as opposed to a more competent white race gives him some credence as a revolutionary. i'm not convinced he was actually anti-communist, in africa positions on marxism were often just said to gain support of the Soviets or the US. regardless of his intent, the result of his efforts was communism. i don't know the details, but colonialism is usually better for blacks than independence and i can't see added communism being different.

as far as a soldier, he seems pretty authentically badass. i'll give him that.

He was cool enough to be in black ops 2

nice analysis bong

Seriously, can there be any economic reasons for this operations? Like some iron mines or something, or is it just cock contests?

Was there a South Africa thread today? About the Boer?

Damn straight!

Wow idn know that. Real informative!

>Seriously, can there be any economic reasons for this operations?
Many. Angola is a huge market of a variety of natural resources including oil, gold, and some of the best god damn farming you could possibly imagine. That's the short list. EO got it's start by fighting for the Ranger Oil Company in Southern Angola, that's how they got contracted by the MPLA to fight UNITA. Ironically most of the guys in EO fought WITH UNITA before they left the SADF.

I like to think that the mercenaries were idealistic. In the Congo they often said they joined to fight communism. The global reason is always resources.

The Portuguese wanted to protect the minority population and to keep military bases there, and to ward off Russian and Chinese influence because they were scared of more communist military bases around the world - Angola could have been a Cuban Missile Crisis for South Africa.

The rebels themselves, like Savimbi, Ian Smith, Mugabe and all the rest believed in their cause and in capitalism or an end to apartheid or in idealistic Marxism. But the world stage wanted some level of control. That's why the Belgians unofficially sent mercs and special forces to Katanga to guard the mines. It's a small region of the country which contains the majority of the resources, but the capital uses them all up and gives them back nothing. I believe a lot of Katangans were in UNITA.

Insightful and good taste in music, I christen you thread DJ...

He's nothing compared to the true king of African Warlords.

OMG general Butt Naked?

Does anybody want to see a three-way Deadliest Warriors fight between Idi Amin, Jonas savimbi, and general butt naked?

>saw him in Black ops
>seems like a cool guy

Would be awesome.

Angola is ours!

You do realize I encountered him in my historical research first? While he was cool in Black Ops, his real voice is much more soft-spoken, intelligent, and calculating and less of a Madman. But nice gif though...

>kekistani flag
>muh based blackman shit
>newfaggotry replies

This better be a r_t_d larp.

What would be each of their long, medium, melee, explosive, and special weapons or tactics?

I did realize that he was probably based off some real life african figure and based on his in game personality I could tell whoever they based him off of wasn't a knuckle dragger in the slightest, like a warrior-king kind of.

Whats that?

General Butt Naked of Liberia?

His fuckin nose goddamn

Oh i thought you were taking the piss outta me...

Indeed, the true KANG.

...

Yeah, thats a snozzer alright.

...

>pretending UNITA were anti-communist

dude both UNITA and MPLA started out as insane anti-colonial commie nonsense, the ONLY difference is the MPLA successfully lobbied the USSR for more weapons and funding and because they agreed UNITA had to start pretending they were anti-commie in order to woo the USA into getting equivalent levels of funding. There is no ideological essence to the Angolan civil war it is LITERALLY niggers nigging and slaughtering each other for power and treasure. That is it and all ideological leanings are utterly superficial and adopted out of political and military necessity. Just fucking look at pic related on the UNITA's ideological development, who the fuck goes from Maoism to Christian Democratic Conservatism? Come on.

Naw mate. The black community could use more figures like Savimbi and less Snoop Chihuahua.
>t. mixed kid

lucky him, he didn´t encounter portuguese ranger's there in colonial wars. lel

Hard core...
>mfw he found god
>mfw when hes a paster...

Amen!

Wasn’t this dude in BO2?

'de costas viradas para o mundo, orgulhosamente sós, glória antiga volta a nós'

I'm up at 2 in the morning making memes, I have a conference at 6.

>implying Portuguese leadership and Savimbi didn't know where eachother were and that they were frienemies

They knew they had to leave Angola, but they wanted to leave it in good hands.
VOTE DR. SAVIMBI!

A little too much of a blockhead - didn't know when to fold.

When the Cold War ended, the usefulness to the proto neo-cons in America of anti-communists in Africa was gone. RSA demonstrated this clearly - white minority rule was gone in a couple of years.

Savimbi thought he could achieve more on the battlefield than in a settlement, but his corpse ultimately proved that wrong.

He forgot to listen to Madame Nhu - she summed up the cost of being an American ally perfectly: "Whoever has the Americans as allies does not need any enemies." Your usefulness is constantly reevaluated and subject to the winds of political correctness.

Yup

What type of conference?

He looks like a cartoon.

Sending from a cell phone but it’s the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, there’s a conference in London about it. It may be a bunch of balding old communists but it may be interesting. Also a bunch of Palestinians marching in the street on my way there, what a coincidence.

Pretty cool!

a little off topic but what do you think Russia would be like if the white Army had won the Revolution and not the Red Army?

Instant civil war between the Whites.

You had crazy people like Baron Ungern-Sternberg, monarchist officers like Kolchak, to provisional government supporters and even disaffected Socialist Revolutionaries.

Follow up question then who probably wins?

I’m actually not too sure. I haven’t read up on Russian history as much as I’d liked to, but just throwing shit at the walk, the government was already weak. I could see it splitting into many different countries
