The sanctions in 2015 were on a hanful of corrupt politicians/businessmen, not enough to make a dent Venezuela's economy as a whole. Low oil prices is what killed their economy, but I wouldn't expect a leftist to understand this.
Their immense oil reserves and gold were the only reason their unsustainable socialist dogmas survived. Their oil exports were not directly hampered by US sanctions, they still sold the oil. Todays Venezuela is the effect of a bankrupt one, were their oil industry is diving off. Besides, the seizing of the production of food made for a terrible allocation of resources, the disregard for competition, price indicators and freedom of the consumer IS what is causing the famine.
