The headline-grabbing fact was that modern southern Europeans--by which they meant like Sicilians and Maltese--are closer to Ancient Egyptians than modern Egyptians. (This is because modern Egyptians have a lot of black ancestry, and Ancient didn't.)
But the study didn't conclude they were white. It concluded that Ancient Egyptians matched most closely to the modern population of Turkey, the Levant, and Arabia. Unless you're all of a sudden gonna claim the entire Middle East/all Arabs as white, no they weren't white; just closer to white than black (or modern Egypt).
