Because the entire season so far has been focused on drama about characters we know nothing about and have no reason to care about. Instead of making us care about these characters beforehand they just dropped them in the story out of nowhere and carried out their melodrama.

The drama was bad at first glance but it was solved pretty well and for what it was, an autistic PTSD that got thrown out of the way after 4 episodes with a simple discussion rather than something serious. Ribbon got promoted to best girl and last episode was really good so I'm fine with it.
