People were sent to camps and a lot did die of typhus mainly, which was of course very bad.

If you read Schindler's Ark, the book Schindler's List is based on, the SS questioned several Jewish prisoners such as Helen Hirsch to get dirt on former Plascow commandant Amon Goeth who they were prosecuting for corruption and brutality to prisoners.
