So on a little bit of a different tack, I'm involved with NRx, and I'm writing stories. Fairy tales essentially, because these are important. Narrative is how people decide how they want to live their lives.
Think of asking someone "Why do you do what you do?" They would tell you that they saw a movie, or heard a story, and thought that they wanted to live that out. Think of how many thots ended up in NYC because they watched Sex and the City as little girls. Think of how many soldiers ended up fighting because they are living out a heroic narrative.
All over the world, what little girls dream about is being a princess. In the age of democracy, where we've destroyed our kings, you basically can't get them to stop fantasizing about royalty.
So how do we replace shit prog narratives with deep narratives? We need our own art forms which are in continuity with what came before progressivism. We can never just go back- that's impossible, but we should have an art that speaks to us here and now but at the same time is connected with eternity.
Fairy tales are a good place to begin, because they're the beginning. Our very oldest stories, the ones that are found across cultures, actually pre-date writing by several thousand years.
This is actually how we encounter fairy tales as children- in a pre-political, pre-literate state.
I've got pages of young men who turn out to be princes, talking animals, mysterious strangers, magic items, and tricky sneaky hand-rubbing villains.
