>nips
>being good at computers

It was 2006.

She doesn't give a fuck.

>>super cool doesn't give a fuck nerd girl
She's an anime fan, not a nerd.
Otaku does not mean "good with computers".
>>uses IE 6 with a bunch of shitty toolbars and adware
Also, as pointed out, you are talking about a Japanese girl.

Firefox existed back then and was in wide use.

Just like every nips ever.

>Otaku does not mean "good with computers".
Otaku's are on their computers a LOT.

If they're not retarded they don't use retarded browsers.

(you)

What is the reason for this?

Why are Japs so bad at computers?

At they still bad at computers today?

>Otaku's are on their computers a LOT
Sup Forums is also on computers a lot, but that doesn't mean they play a lot of games.

lots of english

Most people are bad with computers.
The Japanese just are generally a bit behind the tech curve. They have their computer specialists, but most families have one family computer, and everybody uses their smart phone for everyday stuff.

>Otaku's are on their computers a LOT.
So?
I've spent the last 20 years glued to my monitor. I'm still a casual when it comes to actually using the computer in a sensible fashion.

well, I was talking more about the writers than the character itself

>are they still bad at computers today
I mean, just look at their popular websites, it looks like the design is the fucking same since 1995-2000.

It's an accurate depiction of a 17-year-old girl's computer usage. What about the writers?

I know, I used it then, in fact I only switched to Chromium after the Pocket fiasco. But in 2006 IE still had the majority of the marketshare.

They've gotten a lot better lately. Lately, if I go to the homepage of a new anime series, it's actually pretty good and modern.

So you're using internet explorer right now because it came with your HP computer?

>spend a lot of time on computers
>accidentally learn to program
>accidentally go to college
>accidentally become a software engineer

it's a slippery slope

>slippery slope
That's racist.

that's what nerds did 10-15 years ago. now everyone is too occupied by shitposting to do banal things like that

Why would a so-called internet savvy otaku use it, back when it was even worse than it is now?

What are you trying to say?

otaku =/= internet savvy, in fact they're believed to be stupid and single minded

Because Konata is a poser.

I read somewhere its because of their banking/governmental software uses the microsoft plugin in the internet explorer. DirectX or something else.Either that or I'm confused with korea.

fpbp

japan doesn't like change. if it works they're fine with it. our tokyo branch was the one of the last ones to upgrade from xp to 7 and after that it took them awhile to get used to it lol. mind you this was at 2015

ActiveX

Ah, thats the stuff.

The irony is that you are posting this in Sup Forums.

I think this was posted yesterday(?) in a different thread:
animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2016-05-23/.102406

An average Japanese home doesn't have a computer.

>2006 claimed konata as average otaku representation
>10 years later tomoko became an average otaku representation

what happened Sup Forums

This.
Most of their population does all their online-activities with their PHONES. Actually have done that way longer than us westerners, that is even before the first iPhone came to be.

even youtube?

>even
What's so special about youtube?

...yes, everything is and can be done on phones, silly.

And don't forget, YT did not exist before 2006

>It took less than two years for Google to buy YouTube
Wait, what? I could swear it was around much longer before that. This doesn't feel right

We had flash animations before youtube.

can videos be uploaded/created on mobile phones and is there adblock? never had one

>can videos be uploaded/created on mobile phones
Yes.
>and is there adblock?
I'm sure. But almost nobody uses that sort of thing. Phone users are the epitome of casuals.

In fact, most concerts can be found on the internet almost immediately afterwards because phones are so omnipresent.

Somebody gets stabbed to death on the street in the middle of the city? Nobody is going to help, but in a few minutes everybody will be able to see it on youtube.

Yes, and yes.
It all really depends on your phone model and apps you use.

All in all, the cell"phones" of the past decade have been literal miniature computers.

>implying I implied otherwise
Yes, they did. And I remember (or not really) using a different website before youtube became the biggest thing, I think it was flurl.com or something to that effect.
Still, it hasn't quite sunk in YouTube was bought by Google a decade ago.
I have this faint feeling that's when the site became shit, but then it was apparently always shit?

>that's when the site became shit,
Nah, the original youtube lasted for longer than that. It was only when it became really big and popular that their business model changed.

I guess that must be it, then.

Google really did have a negative effect on the site, but it didn't really do it much pure HARM before just few years ago, when they tried to force that shitty Google+ service for every YT user.

Can't find the old pic I saved comparing the user registration instructions now, but the OLD YT pretty much recommended anonymity/aliases for security reasons alone, while the nu-YT tries to get you link up your account with ALL the social media services, and even use your real name and pic.

That's one of the really major shifts I've noticed since I started using internet in the mid 90s. Back then everyone used a nickname on every site, now you even see people using their real name in online games.

>people using their real name in online games.
Wasn't that particular change spearheaded by Blizzard, forcing their forum shitposters to operate under real names?

That trend's fucking cancerous, and plain out dangerous.

Sure, I understand people using real names and photos in SO.ME. channels, because you're meant to be socializing with others. However, forcing same behavior in other sources, where thousands if not millions of other people can freely view your info? That's just attracting trouble towards you at worst.

It's even more annoying when the supporters of this real-name shit try to act cool and righteous with their "Let's see you say that with your own name and photo, tough guy!" attitude. Why not slap on your street address and bank info to your account too while at it?

>tfw Google still tries to get my Credit Card, PayPal, location, and other info every time I access Play Store
Literal Skynet in brewing, together with W10.

>Literal Skynet in brewing, together with W10.
How do we know that google hasn't actually become self-aware?

>japan doesn't like change.
Are you retarded? PCs have been in the public mind since the early 90ies, while smartphones only got big in the mid 2000s. Yet everyone in Japan owns a smartphone, to the point that they have phone novels, phone anime, phone games.

I like Konata because she is a otaku like me, except she has friends. Oh god I wish I had friends too ;_;

Konata also likes videogames and she is kawaii. And there are lesbians in the show and that's good because I like lesbians and I will never have a girlfriend. Why am I such a loser?!

Konata is like my dreamgirl she has a :3 face I love that. She is also nice why aren't real girls nice!? I got dumped a lot of times but I love konata and she wouldn't dump me because she's so nice and cool.

We would play videogames all day and watch Naruto and other cool animes on TV, and I would have sex with her because sex is so good. I wish I could have sex with a girl.

Don't worry, I doubt we'll still be alive by the time you're required to use your ID to do anything on the net.

By that logic, Sup Forums should be really knowledgeable too, and yet you have people who can't into torrenting or other stuff closely related to consuming this media.

Yes, with the Facebook integration in Starcraft 2 and whatnot.
But not without backlash.

>implying the Japanese actually use good tech
If you go to Japan you'll soon find that most schoolgirls have flip phones.

Retard.

>"hurr hurr retard"
How intelligent.

Don't misquote me, retard.

Their phone plans are god tier though. They were doing the whole social media crap on their phone long before us. Also, flip phones are superior, anyway.

>flip phones are superior
literally no

>more robust
>better for writing systems with lots and lots of different letters
They kind of are.

Toolbars are not inherently bad, maybe the ones she's using are useful. Also remember that this was back in 2006, and nips always were bad at computers.

>remember that this was back in 2006
Which means she probably has a screen resolution of 800x600 or something, making the toolbar even more painful.

2006, not 1996.

Resolution looks more like 1024x768 or 1280x1024, and not that there was much need for so much screen estate back in the day. Websites didn't have two hundred pixels of padding on everything like they do today.
Three fourths of the screen looks reasonable, and not much more than what you get by using Firefox with the navbar, tabs and a bookmarks bar open today.

underrated post

They are. Looks better and more durable too. I would have stuck to my old flip phone if it weren't for the fact that people contact me using those damn smartphone only apps and shit.

>Don't worry, I doubt we'll still be alive by the time you're required to use your ID to do anything on the net.
You're forgetting that the expected lifespan of humans is growing each year, and practical immortality is already a plausible thing.
Not to mention with more and more basic services and other daily features moving to cyberspace, taking down the IRL, solid ones while at it, I'd say we'll be even more relying on online shit in few more years.

It's pretty crazy to think that Facebook and Youtube had literally just spawned and not such big deals a mere decade backwards. 12 years ago, the word "social media" did not even exist. 16 years ago, we still had payphones and phonebooks in almost every street corner, and not everyone even had an internet access.

Assuming the tech keeps growing and improving at similar rate, we just might have Matrix-tier virtual experiences and sentient AIs in another 20 years.

But Japan is 10 years behind in technological use. Most corps over there still use faxes to send documents to eachother.

I want to grow up to be a computer criminal.

>But Japan is 10 years behind in technological use. Most corps over there still use faxes to send documents to eachother.
Crazy.

I don't know why this is.

Japan is supposed to be a futuristic cyberpunk society.

As usual, Japan has lots of extremes. They tend to be stuck in the past, but can also be really good with technology.

>cyberpunk
There's nothing punk about the future we've stepped into, so that's pretty much impossible.

Or maybe, just like other countries, you're bound to have disparities due to regions. Just look at America, for instance. Home of tech giants like Google and Microsoft, but you also have people still using dial up in the less populated regions.

they were so far ahead of us 20 years ago that they don't want to let go of that beautiful time

so all of their technology is the same as it was 20 years ago, considering they had camera phones and video calls and shit back then its alright

Come on, your first webpage looked like this. And I bet you've used Frontpage.

we realized being otaku isn't cool and is just our crippling inability to blend in with society

Why are you responding to bait?

thanks for correcting my error super satan

Guy stronger than Satan speaks the truth.

Not him, but you have beautiful quads. Can I touch them?

I'd say they're very practical with technology, they keep improving in some specific areas that make for more comfortable living and working, but they don't care much about computers themselves as long as they work.
You can see this tendency in jap software: it usually looks ugly as hell, but it's very practical.

I used to love Lucky Star but I tried watching it again not too long ago and it was fucking bad.

>So the other day this happened to me... IN AN MMO LOL
>Gosh Konata, you're such an otaku!

Wise words, Demon Lord.

>almost 100 posts
>nobody recognise the pasta
>no ronery Konata manga dump
>no ronery Kamagi manga dump
>no Spookasa spam

>1995-2000
So, better than 99% of the shitty bloated trash which is considered "good" design nowdays?
I'll take 30kb of tables over 6.8mb of cancerous flash and javascript to display the same fucking information obscured by a mess of irrelevant shit.

Everybody recognized the pasta, that's why nobody replied.

Old Sup Forums is lost in time. It's like trying to remember the Jurassic period.

What do you mean? That shit happens in EVERY Lucky Star thread, it's actually refreshing to have one that doesn't end like that.

lucky star should be treated as an old artifact of otaku culture

azumanga didn't get old a single bit though

>>better for writing systems with lots and lots of different letters
?
1) They input kanji/kana using latin alphabet, though there are other ways.
2) I've never seen a flip phone with more hardware keys than smart phones can have with their software keyboards. Post a pic of what you have in mind.

Japan has smart flip phones, user. They're basically like Blackberry phones in the sense that they are smartphones with a numpad.

When it comes to transmitting sensitive documents faxes are harder to hack than emails.

Damn, that guy is really rocking the retard helmet.

Is the author ill or something? According to wikipedia, the last tanko release was vol 10 in 2013.

>Most corps over there still use faxes to send documents to eachother.
This is commonplace around the world and not for reasons of technological incapacity.
