When I started watching anime back in the days I couldn't get enough of it

When I started watching anime back in the days I couldn't get enough of it.

Nowadays I barely watch anything and I tend to drop most of it.

Has anime overall turned worse over the past decade or is it just me who lost interest?

How can u lose interest in this beauty?

You probably already watched at all the entry level good stuff

Lost interest. Move on with life.

Thus anime was shit

it's you. I have been watching old anime and belive me, it isn't better

Anime was always shit.

Because it's disgusting

Anime is overall worse, but they way you talk makes me think your particular problem is lost interest. Take a break or rewatch your favourites.

In the past you only watched the best of the best, all anime looked awesome. Now you see how much shit is produced in relation to the few gems and you feel disillusioned.

There is honestly more good anime being produced then ever before, the level of shit is just that much greater. Stop being an ass and just watch what you enjoy

wtf I hate anime now.

You're just getting tired of it. I can't believe that i finished Bleach in 2 weeks in 2011 for example. That's impossible for me nowadays.

>I can't believe that i finished Bleach in 2 weeks in 2011

Fucking hell man.

I don't know how old you are, but I'm guessing you started watching it in your teens and you're near mid 20s right now. This is a point where most people lose interest in all things nerdy, not limited to anime. I can't pinpoint the exact reason but it's related to real life commitments and social pressure.

You are right although I still can't shake off the feeling that I have watched the better part of it and the rest just doesn't feel that appealing.

Have you watched your old stuff? Like 60s-70s?

It depends on how you used to watch anime. It could be that you are losing interest, that sounds most likely, but there could be other parts to it too.

How much anime did you watch when you started?Did you go back and watch older stuff?
If you only watched a few new anime each season, or spent much time watching older anime, that could be a sign that anime is getting worse.
There are many parts to this question.
Anime was at its best ever in latter half of the mid 2000s, so you could watch only new stuff, and end up with many amazing anime every season. If that's how you work, then it's because anime is getting worse. Top tier masterpieces are much more rare now than they were back then, when we got multiple each season.
If the number of anime was greater than a season back then could provide masterpieces, but the additional anime you watched was old, then it's the same thing, you have run out of old anime+lack of good new stuff.
If you watched everything in the mid 2000s, and enjoyed it all, then it's that you have lost interest.

It depends on your past and current habits.

>anime was at its best ever in the latter half of the mid 2000s

Oh, and maybe I was wrong here. Many of the great old anime maybe weren't really that popular when they were new. It's unlikely that you'll pick up all the amazing anime from a time, and nothing else, when it's new, because you haven't had time to filter through it and the endings wouldn't be known yet.
The anime community also had lower standards as a whole back then
>Clannad was considered good
(btw haven't seen clannad so don't really know)

But there isn't that much worthwhile from back then right? literally nothing from the 60s, and the 70s doesn't have much either
(haven't seen much)

>there isn't that much worthwhile from back then right?
This kinda presentism and historical ignorance is why you're jaded, user.

isnt that what everyone say
a look at spring 2007 is mindblowing

I haven't heard about anthing good from the 60s. I know about some 70s that I want to watch but that much

Name your favourite anime and the time frame they came out. Chances are that at the same time they came out a plethora of bullshit got released too, you just werent aware of it.

Most people think the golden age of anime was during the late 90s up to the late 00s. I also agree. I think 80% of my favourite anime came out in that time frame.

Name 10 good or better anime from 2015.
You can't.

Name 10 good or better anime from 1998. It's not very difficult.

Name 10 good or better anime from 2007. Easy, and you may be able to mention 20 too.

>you will never live though the golden age of anime that was 2006 - 2009 again
Why do you even continue to live?

actually you can name 10 good anime from 2015

Beginning of the end, if you ask me.

Depends on how low you wanna set your standards.

I have been watching anime since the 80s, is the same shit as always, you are just and old retard that should fuck off to Sup Forums

It's called growing up

...

Depending on your standard and taste i dont think you will find more than 7 anime that are considered good and got released in 98. I just checked it. Just as much bullshit as today with a few good ones every season. Though i agree it was better during that time and you will find more good shows on average, but it isnt considered the golden age of anime for no reason. This was the during advent of late night anime, where producers still took risks and Moe wasnt such a widespread disease.

What a coincidence that all the best anime and music came out when you were a kid!

This thread reeks of Sup Forums

Last season I thought I lost interest in anime but this season I watch at least 20 episodes a week.

Don't be stupid

Okay, maybe you need to go a bit low with your standards to get 10.
The generally well regarded anime are:
-Outlaw Star
-Cowboy Bebop
-Trigun
-Initial D
-Cardcaptor Sakura
-Serial Experiments Lain
-Kare Kano
-Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

which makes 8. To get the 10, you need to add two of the following (or maybe something else I don't know about):
-Magical Stage Fancy Lala
-Getter Robo Armageddon
-Record of Lodoss War
(-Bubblegum Crisis 2040)
(-Other even less popular anime)

And Trigun and Outlaw Star may be questionable as well. So maybe I went a bit too far in saying 1998 is that good. It has some of the best anime of all time, but the quantity may not be the greatest.
However, I think many people would be able to find 10 anime they find good from 1998, even if it's not as clear as I said

>remembering that one time in high school where I had the flu and stayed in bed for literally 3 days marthoning anime non stop, only getting up to go to the toilet
>didn't shower, ate in bed, with my monitor turned towards me, wrapped around in blankets

I can never ever do that now. My backlog is huge and piling, so many things I want to watch, yet I can only bring myself to watch no more than 10 episodes per week.

No, that's the nostalgia talking. Rewatch the old animes and you'll realize that many are as shitty as modern animes.

We can idolize the past in hindsight because we remember the good ones more than the bad ones.

Wow this thread just proved that anime metafags are just people having an adulthood identity crisis.

This thread is no different from retro games on Sup Forums, people just need to move on and become the dirty normalfags they really are

>animes

Redditors should really stop coming to Sup Forums.

Those are the ones i chose too. But i think the year you chose is not really representative of anime of the past. Looking through the other years this one seems to be quite the anomaly with a lot of quality shows that we still consider great. So for example take the year 97.
What do we have here:
Slavers try
Berserk
Utena
Rekka no Honoo?
Thats it to be honest i didnt watch more than those shows and the other ones didnt look too good either. Anime always had problems but today they are way more apparent through the sheer amount of bullshit that comes out.

Lain and Kare Kano are masterpieces.
Consensus seems to be that the same applies to Cowboy Bebop.
Many love YKK too, and it has qualities that are still rare.
Trigun, Outlaw Star and Cardcaptor Sakura may be overrated due to nostalgia, however. On the other hand, I really liked CCS.
None of the other 1998 anime have much nostalgia attached to them.
If I'd mentioned Weiss Kreuz or Silent Möbius, the consensus would probably be that I were overly nostalgic, but I kept them out of it because I know they are not very well regarded.

For 2007, I know that, at least Seirei no Moribito, Lucky Star, probably Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (it's popular among new anime fans still), Dennou Coil and Bamboo Blade are good. I also think Bokurano is a good anime, but that opinion can be quite triggering to many.
Going by Sup Forums's opinions on anime I haven't seen myself, Hidamari Sketch, Kaiji, Baccano and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei are also really good.
Probably good, going by Sup Forums and recommendation charts, but with some potential of being overrated due to nostalgia, include Nodame Cantabile, Heroic Age, Toward the Terra and Mononoke.
There are also some I've heard about but not much, like Ghost Hound and Lovely Complex.
There are also many really popular VN adaptations that I haven't seen, and that probably suck, but they were popular. Maybe one of them are good: Sola, Clannad, ef, Myself;Yourself

The last good anime i saw was RE:zero, before that, OPM, and before that attack on titan. So much other shit that they release that i'm never going to watch. So yea, anime is getting worse. But attack ontitan season 2 will save anime again.

Forgot mob psycho 100, that was also very good

Copying MAL forum posts and shitposting with them here for yous stopped being funny a while ago.

>Re Zero
>good
Whats wrong with you dude that was complete garbage. Also you seem like a newfag what are you doing on here?

I am serious

I lurk from time to time to see if any good mangas have been released. But then I realized that is a waste of time because this board is pretty shit for that

So what you are saying is you agree with him?

I didn't know saying an anime is good equaled to calling it a masterpiece

Right, it does suck for manga discussion. For a board dedicated to anime and manga this has a painfully low amount of manga threads and threads that are not tamong the big 3. I like sharing my favourites so name yours and i can recommend some for you if you want to.

>And Trigun and Outlaw Star may be questionable as well.
I see no reason why Trigun should be thought of as less than Yokohama OVA and CSS as it does more character-wise, thematically and narratively as both of them combined despite of it's execution not being great. Outlaw star is mediocre and Inital D is just plain bad.

The difference between anime then and now is that the best shows form former era are significantly better than the best show from recent years. However the total number of good shows is definitely higher now then it was in late 90s and early 00s.

>I also think Bokurano is a good anime, but that opinion can be quite triggering to many.
though.
At least you are aware of your shit taste.

I pointed out that many of the anime actually do hold up, and are not just carried by nostalgia. Many of the anime can't simply dismissed as nostalgia. But it may be the case for some.
(I've seen the first four episodes of Nodame Cantabile, and so far it shows promise)

I think the user you replied to was just claiming that not all modern anime are shit and people who say that are clouded by nostalgia. I think he will agree that the amount of quality shows every year has stayed quite the same with a few anomalies every now and then.

FLCL, Mushi-shi S1+2,Samurai Champloo, FMP:Fumoffu, FMA:Brotherhood, Kino No Tabi, Haibane Renmei, Akagi+Kaiji, TTGL, KLK, Death Note, Golden Boy.

Just from the top of my head.

Bokurano was okay to really good take that back!

There are still good shows being made, you just have to filter out all the garbage to find it. If not anime, then manga at least. Memes aside, Watamote is arguably the best manga to come out in years.

No you just suck and are a cynical bastard, that probably can't actually appreciate anything and prob should kill itself.

I dont know what you are trying to argue here. Some of the ones you mentioned are modern and some a bit older but all are from the ealry to late 00s.

If they are all from the 00s, that means there has been more than half a decade without any anime that made it to their favourites list. It would actually support the idea that anime has gotten worse since 10 years ago.
(This would be assuming you are right in that they all are from the 00s, which is not actually correct)

But if we accept there has only been 1 anime that's not a sequel from the 10s that made their favorites list, that could be a sign that anime that fits their tastes has gotten really rare in the 10s compared to what it was in the 00s, in other words, "anime has gotten worse".

More than anything, it supports the theory that OP's favourites are from around the time he started watching anime.

>TTGL, KLK, Death Note, Golden Boy.
I think you lost interest because this shit is just bad.

You've lost it, now you should kill.

We don't know when they watched the different anime. But if your theory is correct, then they probably started at earliest 2006-2007. Then they watched some older anime that they also liked. Then they kept watching anime, but didn't like any of them, except the sequels and Kill la Kill.
The fact that they liked the relatively recent sequel to Mushishi suggests that their liking for Mushishi is not only due to nostalgia, but actual appreciation for the qualities of Mushishi. If they only liked Mushishi for the nostalgia, then they would probably be disappointed by the sequel, because they got time to develop taste and would come to realize how terrible Mushishi actually is.
I don't think the fact that they likes more older anime is proof that they are just nostalgic. It could be that anime has changed.

I have the same problem sort of. I used to marathon everything but now I usually just watch seasonal anime and shitpost on Sup Forums. when marathoning, I had a lot more to choose from and pick anything that really interested me. now I don't have as many options each season.

same

>golden boy
>bad

I just finished The Wire
How can anime even compare?

Check out K-On

I wish I could take back all the time, all the hours wasted on porn and swap them for anime instead.

Me too but the opposite

Theres more variety in anime to watch than porn

That, but the opposite

I dont even watch it anymore, except for old stuff I want to rewatch and missed back in the day. I exclusively read manga now. Nothing of value was lost, modern anime is fucking trash

Anime is better than porn, its more pathetic to spend 5 years addicted to porn putting off all the anime you want to see into a massive backlog of 120 + shows that keeps growing and missing out on the best stuff and never watching any shows in season and missing out on all the discussion and speculation about them, and finding that some more obscure shows you want to watch that everyone has seen already years ago have few seeders, and are gone from the internet.

Becoming an anime fan has an expiration date. In average they last one to two years. In this period anime is the best thing ever and they keep binge watching it. Time passes and very few continue to watch. Later some even create aversion to it.

It cant. anime is for fucking losers compared to real kino

This, exactly, except switch porn with anime.

>Porn is better than anime, its more pathetic to spend 5 years addicted to anime putting off all the porn you want to see into a massive backlog of 120 + shows that keeps growing and missing out on the best stuff and never watching any shows in season and missing out on all the discussion and speculation about them, and finding that some more obscure shows you want to watch that everyone has seen already years ago have few seeders, and are gone from the internet.
Well, it's technically not wrong, but I doubt that there's actually really that much discussion and speculation about porn.

Then again, the internet is huge, and it wouldn't surprise me if there were a bunch of porn sites where they have detailed discussion about porn.
After all, the internet is for porn.

This must be what its like to be naive

This must be what it's like to be gay

I have trascended the restrictive futility of labels in order to acquire more porn

You got old, granny.

Probably just you. I feel similarly, barely watching anything but two shows with minimum of 12 episodes.

I wonder if watching any anime (or anything) would be more enjoyable with other people in rl or via stream chat-i remember watching reruns of LotHT on wooo and having a good time (not under the influence).
