They're selling BDs for it too
about 70$
for 8 minutes
what the fuck

That was actually better than I dared hope.

>2017年2月28日までの限定公開となります

No Noa. No Buy.

Of course not.

I also wasn't too thrilled with the CGI; the heart and soul of Patlabor was the art.

it was pretty bad honestly. feels like cheap clone. cgi instead of hand drawn

>reboot
What's the point in calling it that if it's just some 7-minute shit?

So are they going to do a full reboot or what?

Probably.

please no there's been plenty shitty reboots already
patlabor was a product of it's time

But user, think of the jewgold you can get from grave robbing franchises that are actually good.

Please no.

Oh yes.

Every extant franchise you love that can be remade or spun off will be repeatedly violated until even the source material is tainted and new franchises are going to be strangled by their own success into flash-in-the-pan cash grabs.

I'd imagine that depends on the reception of this short. I strongly doubt they would dust off the animated version of the IP just a year or two after a live action show to only make one seven minute OVA.

You could make the series work in the context of something other than 80's Japanese optimism. It would just take some work.

But I want a Noa figure. My Ingram looks lonely without Noa.

I've seen some Ingrams that come with a Noa.
I really wish I had the time, money or effort to get myself a nice Ingram.

The revoltech figures look great and are somewhat cheap.

This. Noa is too perfect

I hope not. If they are going to do new patlabor then it better continue from last OVA

But what do they add? More of Noa and Asuma alternating between top bantz and awkward blushing? Goto playing everybody like a damn fiddle again? I'm not saying I don't want more, but more for more's sake would dilute it and lower its worth.

So who the hell was the unit 2 pilot? Because unlike generic black hair guy in unit 1, they seemed super good at their job.

I haven't watched this yet, but if it's a soulless attempt to recapture the magic of an old /m/ series and uses CGshit, then I can only hope it ends with this short.

Patlabor has a following but I don't think it's really popular enough to 'cash in' on. Certainly not with a modern audience.

Youcan change the language to english you know?

It's to fund the series if it gets made, better than doing a kickstarter.

Then why dig it up to piss all over the original?

>piss all over

? Fuck off

Because Anno feels like it.

And why is it pissing over the original? It's a good short, a lot of people liked it.

Stop crying you retard

>I haven't seen it
>WAA THEY'RE PISSING OVER MUH NOSTALGIA

It has nothing to do with the original, it doesn't affect the original, if you don't like it then ignore it and that's it.

I thought they did a fine job of it. The labors looked good for CG, the animation was nice and the music was on point without directly ripping tracks from the original.

>Rebooting an old /m/ series with CGshit
It's pretty much the ultimate insult.

But the CG looks nice. Not as charming as Patlabor TV or detailed as the movies, but nice enougn for a hypothetical TV run.

>CG looks nice
No. Anime is a visual medium. If you're going to cheap out and use soulless CGshit, then why bother making anime at all?

It looks good though.

Gundam has CGI all the time, there's entire fights in Unicorn being CGI that still look really good.

Only retards like you get your panties twisted because they use CGI, it looks good.

CG is fine. Bad CG is the issue. Is Planetes suddenly worthless because it used CG for some external shots of the space station? Is Patlabor 2 a waste because some shots traced models? Is Ghost in the Shell a worse movie for using CG to portray thermoptic camouflage? CG is a tool. It's about the quality of the tool and how it's used.

CGI is good when used properly.

Stop crying

CG is garbage and can't compare to real hand drawn animation. It's a cheap alternative for cutting costs at the price of any shot at exciting or interesting animation.

>just memespouting the same answer

(You)

no

What if unit 2's pilot is christmas cake Noa?

Planetes is worthless because it butchers the manga.

Nobody wants to be an animator animator, this is not the 90s.

CGI looks good, will you stop crying already?

Actually you know what, it's my fault for falling for it, next time try to make an actual post instead of barfing the same shit opinion shitposters come up when they cry about
>muh CGI

>Tries something different and brings its own take rather than being a dull and dry ad for something that probably wouldn't even work directly translated into anime anyway
>Butchers

>Reboot

Let it go waifufag

>Calling everything you don't like a meme and actually handing out a (you)
>Pretending CG isn't shit

>Nobody wants to be an animator animator, this is not the 90s.
Concrete Revolution and Flip Flappers were both this year and had amazing animation.

>CGI looks good, will you stop crying already?
No it doesn't. I certainly hope you don't thin Etotama was some amazing feat of animation.

>I'm a fucking idiot who doesn't have any standards when it comes to animation, so I'll pretend everyone who actually likes animation in their anime is a shitposter
Ok

Until we see something calling it an AV-16 Ingram I'm not entirely buying it.

>mfw /m/fags don't watch the best mecha show currently airing because muh CG

Well after all these years let Asuma and Noa become couple. I just want to see who confess first

They angrily shouted it at each other at the same time.

Or better that Noa actually married Asuma

>mecha
>good
>CG
Pick 2.

And for you and all the other idiots who think all of /m/ hates CG, half the board laps it up.

Sort of canon according to TNG.

I'm liking the new backup officer. Even if so far she's just been Asuma.

Post Noa.

Noa is for tender lewd with her husbando.

I've already seen and enjoyed it. It manages to capture the whole "mecha in an extremely contemporary environment" that made the original series so great.
>better than doing a kickstarter.
Is it really though? Trigger got more than half a million dollars from their LWA Kickstarter. I don't know if a limited run of overpriced Blu-Rays would yield the same profits.

I liked the deck-up getting interrupted by the powerlines and subsequent scramble to get out of the truck at an awkward angle.

a reboot should have been about the new york labor team imo

explore something new

I would have watched a series about CLAT.

So where do I start if I wanna watch Patlabor now?

>no Goto

I can't deal with this.

Damn shame.

Either OVA1 or TV. OVA1 is shorter, so it's probably the better option. From OVA1, you then watch the movies. From TV, you then watch OVA2. It's pretty simple.

Agreed. You can argue CG shit but the feel of it was definitely right. I also appreciate that they're different characters so that it's not just a re-tread.

Bunch of whiny faggots. The quality varied a lot between OVA,tv and shows so don't bring this hand drawn always superior shit. Plus it's not about robot battles in it's core. I welcome this attempt of bringing it back, hopefully it does well.

TV timeline was the most comfy and entertaining shit ever. Those fucking dungeon episodes man.

Or the whale episode.
Do not taunt the man with the big gun.

>It's a cheap alternative for cutting costs at the price of any shot at exciting or interesting animation.

this is a stupid comment, anything can be a cheap alternative.

2D animation can be lazy too, how often do you see anime scenes where two characters talk and all we see is a background pan, or an image of their mouths opening with minimal animation?

You don't blame the tool for the faults of the artist, pixar movies are all done in CG and yet they are able to captivate millions.

Anyone who hates on CG has never seen anything that tried to use it ambitiously, CG will be the future of anime, it's just like digital media when it replaced hand drawn cels

Doing a kickstarter gives people the right to meddle in your work. You need to keep your deadlines and all that.

You don't really get how anime works, selling BDs is basically them just testing waters for the upcoming series, studios and backers know what will do good or not. If it won't then they don't make it.

CG can help with anime, effects, background characters and stuff like that. It will never replace 2D anime, what you're looking for is a good blend of both

I wouldn't mind if it instead of a reboot, it's a continuation.

The old crew is retired/have new postings and this is a new squad of fresh faces trying to fill their shoes using a new Ingram model (chassis untouched).

Check out Bubuki/Buranki. Pretty much gorgeous 3d, and they supplement it with 2d when they want to save costs on models that aren't going to be reused.

...

Not good enough to beat Kanuka.

She literally did.

>implying

Stay salty.

>The labors looked good for CG
This. I loved the original series, and honestly for what we can expect of modern mecha that looked pretty good.

At least it doesn't look hideously bad like Gundam Origin or Yamato, and to me it felt like it captured the spirit of the old series without really sacrificing much.

I liked it. Even though it's just a short, it feels like they got the essential ingredients in, without feeling like a total retread. I didn't mind the CG, either. I'd like to see a new TV series or something with this staff.

Bandai Visual is infamous for overcharging for stuff. I remember seeing copies of single episode Diebuster volumes in the mall back in like 2005 for 59.99 Canadian plus tax. Gundam Unicorn is like 100 per volume or something as well. They promo boy have the most expensive media all around, like even more than Aniplex

First OVA set
Movies 1 & 2

TV show is own continium

agreed

>this is a stupid comment, anything can be a cheap alternative.
No, what you just said was a stupid comment. CG in anime is always used as a cost cutting method because of the low budgets anime usually have. What the fuck does "anything can be a cost cutting method" mean? Training new animators and hiring talented directors to compose good actions scenes, and giving them a loose schedule to work with sure as hell isn't cost cutting. CG allows for rotating the camera and backgrounds without redrawing anything (with is labor intensive with hand drawn) and reuse of models for robots that would otherwise take time and effort to animate because of all the parts.

>2D animation can be lazy too
The both have a bottom, but CG can never get near the heights hand drawn can.

>You don't blame the tool for the faults of the artist
When the tool changes the artist working on the series and how the animation is done, then yes, I blame the tool. The tool is shit.

>Anyone who hates on CG has never seen anything that tried to use it ambitiously
In what? Guilty Gear? Kung-fu Panda? It doesn't change the fact that it's shit in anime.

>CG will be the future of anime, it's just like digital media when it replaced hand drawn cels
You and Calarts can go fuck yourself. The jew that shilled that shit got fired at Disney back when they still had pride in their work. And no, it's not just like digital animation at all. Cel, digital and webgen all still require the same talent and skillset from the artist. CGshit throws that all away entirely.

The ending of the Planetes manga was complete and utter shit compared to the anime.

I'd go so far as to say that they should be treated as two completely separate continuities, like whatever the fuck the Gundam timelines are now.

>like whatever the fuck the Gundam timelines are now
>now
Since the 90s there's a bunch of timelines in Gundam.

Good, but it's no CONDISHON GWEEN

And Midnight Blue is better.

tfw the last OVA episode where they visit the graves
it was just so out of nowhere at the time
but it tied the mood of the TV timelime nicely with the OVA timeline
at least, the movies

>He doesn't want to JUST FLY FLY AWAY
Midnight Blue is annoyingly good, though. So is the second ED I've currently forgotten the name of.

Don't forget how it's basically an extended apology for one serious fight they have in the series, on top of all the other things going on.

True. All those little snippets all the time.
I suppose it makes a great lesson too about forgiveness and actually coming around to facing problems instead of putting them off forever.

>Finally gives Noa the full context for his bitterness towards his father, opening up to her about something he's incredibly guarded and sensitive about but feels she needs to know
>Even after that, actually tries to talk to him on her account anyway, even if it doesn't go brilliantly
JUST FRIENDS
Pretty weird birthday gift, though.

The important question is if the new cast will feature crippling sexual tension. We just don't seem to know yet.

...

Honestly this is as gay as hollywood doing GITS. Reboots are a cancer.

I enjoy the old series and I think this new one is fine. The only thing I don't like about it is the super generic self insert mc.

I want noa back, or a noa clone.

I don't see any good point to this. I love this series as much as anybody, but rehashing it to make a buck is stupid.

>noa clone
Not feelin it man.

I think it would cause an apocalyptic backlash.
