Is it weird that I am going to miss the Islamic state? Back in 2014, I was expelled from college in January for alcoholism and illegal drug possession. The first month of my expulsion, I literally sat in my room speaking to no one. Zero human interaction. At this point, the Syrian civil war became a point of escapism for me. I followed every development. I listened to every nasheed. I watched every isis video. I was in shock when ISIS militants over ran Mosul. Instead of being some deadbeat loser in my room, I imagined joining the ypg in their defense of Kobani. I looked up plane tickets to turkey. I talked to ypg volunteers. In the end, I never went when I was accepted into another university.
But still I wonder…..
