Lowering margins as a result a shrinking consumer base(since a businesses would be competing for a shrinking number of consumers) would put local businesses at a huge disadvantage(who all run at higher margins) whilst established players will have a bigger market share, which creates even more monopolies. Existing established businesses running on low margins would only benefit. Everyone else, including the consumers, would lose.
