Individualism won't solve all our problems. Peterson has been too focused on this for a while now.

Good goy. Be an individual. Ignore that everyone else in the World practices in-group preference. Slavery! Apartheid! The Holocaust!

No, he's wrong.

Individualism means judging a person's value by his own, not by the value of the group he belongs to.

You can practice in-group preference while being individualistic. There's no conflict in that. Just basic freedom of association.

Individualism is a nice concept for a perfect world but we all know what kind of world we live in. Same story with libertarian ideals.

Individualism only works in homogeneous societies.

Yes.

This is where Peterson is wrong. The group defeats the individual every time, no matter how sorted out he is. Individualism is great at many things, but it only works in societies consisting of individualists that are more or less free from external threats. Once outsider groups wander in with very strong group identities (i.e. muslims, jews, etc.) you better make sure you have a group of your own to watch your back or they will destroy you and everything you have.

...

No man is an island. Individualism is a myth. We all rely on a collective to survive. Now the issue is to what extent you surrender your own identity and agency to the collective and which collective you choose to be a part of.

The problem is when you participate in a collective that is hostile to your own interests. If a collective doesn’t strengthen you as an individual then you should not participate in it. At times it may be necessary to sabotage it if you are disallowed from freely associating with other groups within that collective.

Yes fellow goyim, be individualists, don't unite against external threats, only you matter.

lol no

lolcaps have never been tried irl, but the ideology is flawed enough that it will just lead us straight to square one, or worse.

>The problem is when you participate in a collective that is hostile to your own interests.
Collectives such as the ones we live in now are always against your own interests (assuming you define them roughly as your access to "rights")

THIS

Individualism is a luxury that safe and rich societies can afford.
If you look at poor and unsafe countries with lots of individualism usually you are looking at Mexico or Syria or some other failed state.

he is a philosopher and an idealist. he does not realize the practicality of fascism.

collectivism, of one kind or another, will win. The individual will be ground into the mud. The only thing we can do, is make sure that the RIGHT kind of collectivism wins. Jordan has normalized the average person as being much, much smarter than they are because he lives and breathes and works with very smart people.

Bump

Peterson is a degenerate

you can’t apply individualism to every aspect of society. it’s anithetical to the concept of society itself, which involves cooperation and subscription to a group identity

Completely true. Extreme nationalism, like communism and socialism, reduce the individual to state property.
Individualism is the true Western ideology.

Don't get me wrong, AnCaps are retards too, since they don't see that their ideology is just masked primitivism.
