Shitty way to start a thread

This song creeps me out but gets me hard at the same time

That's not Keit-Ai.

Dunno if I'd say best. Tokyo Godfathers, Mononoke Hime, or Paprika all give it a good run. That chase scene with the reflections during the climax was a nice touch though.

It's a pretty normal way if you've been on Sup Forums for at least a week.

>Paprika
Paprika was Kon's worst fucking film. It was trash.

So?

Paprika's only really outstanding visually. Good soundtrack too.

Will you fuck off with your useless posts and discuss something or leave?

I thought it was just on the right side of going off the rails for a movie about dreams. The ending was way too far out of left field though.

Why are you so upset?

The whole movie was a convoluted mess. I really think Kon just wanted to showcase his directorial style/sakuga power.

I prefer Tokyo Godfathers. Not just out of Kon's films, but in general it's my favorite animated film.

Favorite non-Kon film would have to be Ninja Scroll.

Paprika is great visually and thematically, it's only the story that is kind of lacking. I think the weak story may have actually been intentional since it was an exploration of dreams, which generally have strong feelings and visuals but not much narrative cohesion. I'm not really sure why you would call it trash, it's still in the top 1% of films.

You have good taste, Mononoke Hime is my favorite Miyazaki film.

>I'm not really sure why you would call it trash
I just thought it was really boring. Yeah I don't really think it's trash I just think it looked pretty and that's it.
It's trash spray-painted gold.

Akira.

I actually think Laputa has a tighter narrative and better final act than Mononoke Hime, but I will always give the nod to Mononoke for having an outcome decided by the main characters' choices.

...said the dirtbag motorcyclist.

I marathoned this, Paprika, Jin Roh and Red Line the other day, Red Line won.

It looks like we both agree it's primarily a visual movie with little actual substance outside of some themeing, but I really enjoyed Paprika. I watch/read a lot of surreal stuff so I'm ok with a weak or non-existant narrative.

What's your favorite Kon film? Are you the Perfect Blue guy or do you have a different one?

I love Jin-Roh but after an entire movie's worth of build-up the final action sequence is pretty underwhelming. I thought the wolf symbolism was overdone as well.

Have you read Shuna no Tabi?

Why not both?

Keit-Ai directed by Satoshi Kon and a Quija Board.

Already a thing.

Stop posting Keit-ai because it's already an anime.

I'm still mad Spirited Away was the Miyazaki to get the Oscar and not Mononoke Hime
I know the category didn't exist in 1997
hate the Oscars just mainly salty that Spirted Away gets all the props from idiots cause awards=quality[/spoiled]

I actually would have liked Jin Roh more if it had a happy ending, I mean, at the end of the movie it just felt like everything was pointless, like, why the fuck I watched all the movie for?

Millennium actress is much better though.

Honneamise

> Have you read Shuna no Tabi?

No, but a quick look at the synopsis tells me I should. Also...

> Thea nurses Shuna back to health

Every fucking time.

2clean

>favorite Kon film
Yeah perfect blue is my favorite, I also really enjoyed paranoia agent even though that wasn't a film.
I'm really into his psychological stuff.

So how many people did Mima actually kill?

This or Memories: Magnetic Rose

Honneamise may have the best combat/air combat animation + physics of all time

Either the first Berserk Movie or the 1997 series

youtube.com/watch?v=BRtAGq5bT54

Those are some excellent choices.

Mines either Perfect Blue or Redline. Redline is the most enjoyable and fun I've ever watched in any medium though. I've watched it maybe 8 times

not an argument

I preferred Cannon Fodder to Magnetic Rose.

Actually I think Memories often gets praise at the expense of ignoring anthologies that are of comparable quality. I'd put Labyrinth Labyrinthos from Neo Tokyo on the same level as Memories' Cannon Fodder.

All three of the Animerama films are pretty great

I liked stink bomb better than cannon fodder.

Cannon fodder felt unfinished and sort of shallow.

Very solid anthology, but Magnetic Rose is just so Ridley Scott-esque and beautiful that it deserves the praise

Personal favorite is Millennium Actress, if we're going by Kon movies.

I found Cannon Fodder the most visually interesting out of the three (especially with how they did the scene transitions), but I generally do agree with that it felt like it could have at least been expanded upon. Still, for what it is though I really enjoyed it a lot.

good taste

test

>even discussing cannon fodder and stink bomb as if they're remotely in the same league as magnetic rose

>redline

>nothing but visuals

Great pleb spotting in this thread.

I thought Perfect Blue was average.
Millenium Actress>Tokyo Godfathers>Paprika>Perfect Blue

Please.

The rape scene in perfect blue was a bit much, didn't really make sense.

Millennium Actress was Kon's best movie.

Perfect Blue is second best though. Then again, everything that man made was at least silver, if not gold.

What rape scene?

It did when you think about who's doing it

Seriously, how could you forget it? it's one of the few scenes in anime that I felt a strong need to look away from the screen while watching, it was disgusting.

>the best stand-alone anime film
But that's Tokyo Godfathers

Oh weakling, just grow up.
I think that screen support to convey the absurdity of the entertainment industry, which everyone is so casual about that taboo subject.

I like Laputa and Kiki's Delivery.
Is the Captain Harlock film considered standalone? Or is that Sakura Wars movie that had nothing to do with the rest of the franchise?

>rape scene
You mean the attempted rape by the creepy guy or the film shoot, because she wasn't actually raped right?
I fapped to that shit regardless because thats my fetish

i have nausicaa then porco rosso on my list

Am I the only one who fapped a bunch of times to her in maid dress while getting raped? IT was fuck HOT.

Reminder that Mima fucking murdered the porno photographer and got away with it.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya desu.
>one good scene
>plays attempted rape off as a joke
>greatest anime movie of all time
Never change Sup Forums.

Millenium Actress is the best Kon work.

Should of been a series, pacing felt janky

It was good but nothing special, really

am i missing out if i watch this with dubs?

Yes

faggot

>watching a dub unironically.

>it was disgusting.
People itt fapped to it the most, including me. Also it was an act faggot.

Roujin Z is also crazy underappreciated, despite the names attached. It's fascinating to see the same themes Kon would later explore when he started directing films

Also what d'you guys think of Metropolis?

didn't understand shit.

my favourite edgefest, it's a mastapeace

Kawajiri's edgefests are entretaining as fuck

Fucking this

Millenium Actress is objectively top 3. Kill yourself if you think otherwise

>Kill yourself if you think otherwise

Not nice

...

Tokyo Godfathers was the last Kon movie I watched and I was so surprised at how straight forward it was compared to his other movies. Not a bad thing but I almost couldn't believe it was by the same guy who did Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent

Personal favorite is probably Marnie or The Cat Returns. I really liked Tokyo Godfather's as well. Most Ghibli films bore me.
Couldn't bite the premise in Millennium Actress.

Koe no Katachi could very well blow everything away personally, given how both Yamada and Yoshida are both working on it.

Fucking hot scene, that's for sure.

Because you're being a retard

Millennium Actress or Grave of the Fireflies.

It was tame and boring by comparison, and I never really felt connected or empathetic for the dumb woman.

>tame and boring

Why are you watching Kon films for the edge?

Roujin Z is underappreciated but it's not up there with the greats.

Metropolis looked cool but it didn't really grab me, the story is pretty unimaginative.

If you consider his cinematography edgy then yes. It's not about the narrative content, but I did find the mystery of Perfect Blue more engaging than an old woman's nostalgia trip.

has this been subbed already?

There's a disgusting chinese rip floating around but it flashes a legal warning every other scene
