Also, it's very possible that when you transfer the code, you don't immediately die. It makes more sense and is more likely that you just lose your immortality. The nun killed herself after transferring the code, and VV died because when he lost the code he was mortally wounded and didn't regenerate yet, so it allowed him to die.

It's one of 3 viable possibilities.
The other 2 are: the code only protects you from geass you create and it was just a visual non sequitur and the red rings around the eyes were only there to mislead the audience.
There is precedent for the second one in that when lelouch orders shirley not to die she got the red rings despite lelouch using geass on here before. I remember it flared up speculation that Orange's blueass could let lelouch re-geass people or lelouch's geass got powerful enough to be used twice but it was never mentioned again.
