Yakumo-san

Older women, food, cosiness, good sleep, go!
I swear to god writing these opening lines is harder than translating the manga itself. In any case, today’s chapter is all about character progression! Hmmmmm, you know you like it, that sweet, sweet, juicy character development and plot progression! Topped off with some mild backstory exploration and future plotline setups.
Anyway, enjoy Chapter 5.

Chapter 5: Flower viewing night

...

Ya-
Yakumo-san

So, this friend of yours isn’t coming for flower viewing ?
Yeah
The cherry blossoms around this area have mostly scattered
There’s only one tree left in late full bloom
(small text: Let me hold that
Ara, how nice)
And I’ve already made this much food
But it’s fine
I was taking a road near Tousei anyway, getting to meet with Yamato-kun is really lucky
Is that so?
Yeah!

Speaking of which, it has already been a month since you moved here huh
Gotten used to school yet?
Yeah. I met with the boys in the baseball club back around spring break
Is that so
How about lunch?
Etto….probably Gyuudon or other boxed food
((en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyūdon?oldid=490447644))
Do you know there are a ton of Ramen shops in front of the station?
Ah..um
Was that the store that reeks of garlic?
I’ll go next time
(small text: there’s also a store that sell super-hot ramen in the next station)

Ah
Umm, do I smell of sweat?
Hm? No?
You wash all of your clothes by yourself? How admirable
Nah, I just throw them into the washng machine.
There’s no…..
Waah

It blooms so pretty this year too.
Ooh

I got this sheet at the dollar store. (100 yen)
I’m glad… It’s been a while since I last go flower viewing
Oh, are you hungry?
Then let’s eat

((note: I’ll try to work out that menu when I have the time. Can’t even read half of the shit written. So far I see fried tofu sushi, fried chicken and some baby tomatoes, onigiri, tamagoyaki with wieners and mixed veggie))
Jaann!!
Since it’s a flower viewing party, I bought some Dangos
((en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dango))
Oh, I’ve seen these in mangas
((small text is small:”It’s spring so I made ‘something’. I’ve also wrapped the onigiri with ‘something’))
We’ll eat together this time
Yes
>Itadakimasu

Eating with both hands
Wonder who he takes after
These deep fried food are delicious
Re-really?
Yes
This is the first tome he’s said “delicious”
I should make deep fried food more often
((en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karaage))

Now for some tofu-sushi
((en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sushi#Inarizushi))
Wha-?
S-sorry, I ate your share
….by habits
Haha, don’t worry, just eat all of it
I did plenty of tasting when I was making them
Usu
She did taste these…

The Cherry blossoms are beautiful
This area is pretty famous for cherry blossoms
There are a lot of people come here to see it earlier in the year

Before I was living here
I also came every year to see them

Is that so?
Well, we do live pretty close, but never really come here
So that….
(sfx: wind blowing ‘byuuuuu’)

wa
The petals are sticking to the food
Yakumo-san
There are petals on your hair too.
Eh?

Ugh, really?
How’s this?
Completely the same
Ehh?
Sorry, can you take them out for me?
?! Y-yeah

...

Her eyelash is long…

I took them out
Thank you
Usu

Thank you for the meal!
The night is getting colder. We should head home soon
Yeah
You have to practice tomorrow too huh? Must be tough
Well, I don’t hate baseball
But you can remember all those baseball rules right? Yamato-kun is actually pretty smart
(small text: you can understand home runs and such)
All thanks to those brats …

The spring tournament is coming up. You have to get up especially early huh?
Yeah
There’s plenty of seat at the stadium, so if it’s possible …
Is it embarrassing if I go
Not really…
Well, compared to the summer tournament
The scale of this one is pretty small so …
I’m sorry

What I said was not true

I didn’t really made a promise with a friend
And have been waiting for Yamato-kun for so long
I really wanted to see the Cherry blossoms together

...

But you’re a boy
And I really love flower viewing so…
I like it
I really like it
The flower viewing

...

Is that so?
That’s great

And that’s it for chapter 5. In case you didn’t realize, he said “Suki desu” which just means “like” without any additional meaning, and and can be used on pretty much anything (You’ve probably heard “Watashi wa Anata no koto ga suki desu” before). Needless to say translating it into English absolutely destroyed the mood for that scene. Overall a really nice chapter, but stay tuned for tomorrow, as a new challenger is about to enter the battle!

So it's about fanservice?

Thx senpai

Misread "goro" for "yatsu". So the last sentence should be "Because I've been doing it since I was a little brat"

What's the difference between suki and ai?

好き is "like"
愛 is 'love"
Japanese autism prevents them from just saying "I love you", so they just say "I like you" instead. Only in particularly emotional scenes can you see "Ai shiteru yo"

Quick update on the current Raw chapters. Yamato's sister was introduced and a flashback chapter of Yakumo and Yamato's first meal together. Oh, and volume 2 is continuing to do strong in sales like volume 1 did.

You're still doing this?

this is Sup Forums. The correct terminology you're looking for is "imouto"

There a problem with him translating?
