Is learning japanese to watch anime wihtout subs and reading untranslated manga worth it? I've always thought it's a waste of time.

どうせお前には無理だ

Hell yes. You can read whatever you want. If you really want to read something but no one is scanning it or there are no raws available you can just buy it and problem solved.

黙れほも

Yes. I don't have to wait for manga translators since it's a fuciing tedious job, I don't have to worry about disgusting localizations in vidya, and can always spoil LNs when they're readily available.
You made this thread recently, let the djt go.

It's a waste of time.

Pointless, machine translation will be humanly perfect with current advances in about a year or two.
You'll already bee knee deep into it while realizing you wasted time.

>to watch anime without subs
Probably not

>reading untranslated manga
Probably. Even more so if you include LNs.

It was worth it maybe 20 years ago, maybe 10 years ago if we stretch it.
But a bit too late now, my man.

If you want to spend a few years studying for a significant amount of time every day, then sure.

>machine translation will be humanly perfect with current advances in about a year or two
Japanese > English? No fucking way.

No, but it probably is worth it if you like light novels and/or actual Japanese literature.

>you can watch anime raw
>you don't have to wait for manga translations
>you can read untranslated light novels
>you can play Japan-exclusive games
>you can read VNs on day 1
>can read any porn you want
>you're not an EOP
Unless you're a normalfag who only watches anime, then it's not worth it. But if the things I listed above are your hobbies then It's not a waste of time.

Depends on how much you like this shit. If you can foresee yourself watching anime in 10 years, then yes.

>sadpanda
>dmm porn games
That's pretty much all I do. I wanted to read untranslated LNs when I started learning Japanese dammit.

>machine translation will be humanly perfect
No. They will never be perfect because Japanese and English both contains features the other language does not have. You cannot fully capture English poesy in Japanese and you fully cannot capture some moege in English.

nigga we are talking about a language that didn't had the WORD GREEN
Unless you have some GW tier AI, we ain't getting good translation in a year or two

No, it's soon to be dead language

you could parlay that skill into a high paying job.

Yes

Its not a year or two away user, reading any online translator is like solving a fucking riddle.

Nigga when are you from?
Perfect computer translators are stupidly far away. Sure, Watson can mostly read, but that doesn't mean it can translate.

lol

Lot of anime is translated fast these days so it would only be worth that for shit like movies and OVAs. Manga on the other hand is WAY more worth learning Japanese for. While bigger series do get fast translations there is a TON of others that have slow as shit translations, bad translations, or simply have only 2 chapters done and are dropped forever.

Only learn it if you want to learn it, if you stop learning it'll be pointless

It's a waste of time but if you have time to waste you might as well spend it learning a skill.

>Learning a language is a waste of time
>Learning a language that so happens to SPECIFICALLY open up an entire world of options in your interest/hobby and makes it so you don't have to rely on others (who might fuck up the translation and you'll never know) to enjoy your interest/hobby properly is a waste of time.

Are you fucking retarded like the guy saying machine translation that can capture meaning based on context and nuance is only a year or two away?

>nigga we are talking about a language that didn't had the WORD GREEN
You fucking what?

I don't know either

H-How am I doing, /djt/?

Yeah, midori is a thing.

More like a decade.

It ain't worth shit if you skip days.

You have seen nothing yet, kid
