I understand that Sup Forums has a very short memory, but I didn't realize how short it is.
I've been around for a while, I've seen this board fundamentally change in many ways throughout the years, but the one consistent factor is that while this place is a definitely breeding ground for trolls and memers and can actually be a lot of fun, it's also chock full of actual shills and political extremists looking to radicalize members.
The guy in the picture is Brandon Russell, a neo-nazi caught with bombmaking materials in Florida. I've included the full story (wfla.com/2017/11/08/300-documents-reveal-brutal-crime-scene-in-tampa-palms-neo-nazi-murder-case/) here, because it is an interesting read. This may not be a well-known fact, hell I might be the only one left who remembers, but Brandon Russell was a very frequent poster on here among other sites like iron march. He was also a member of a small group of national socialists known as 'Third Position' who were frequent posters on here, and were lead by a literal pedophile. Some oldfags might also rememeber 3P, but I suspect that's also lost to history.
As someone who often found himself in 3P trolling or arguing with these literal stormweenies, I actually knew Brandon Russell reasonably well a few years back - he went by 'Odin' at the time, and was an up-and-coming engineering student with genuine talent and appreciation for the work, even if he was intolerably autistic. He even appeared in a Backyard Scientist video (youtu.be/TLortHPcbbc?t=198) demonstrating his passion for the work.
Now you might be thinking, 'Why do I give a fuck about some guy who used to post here'?
To this, I offer you a simple answer; whether you think you are just trolling on here, whether you're a lurker, you are not immune to the tactics of these groups. Brandon Russell, as I knew him a few years back online, was completely harmless without any capacity for violence - just an autistic engineering student looking for companionship and a sense of direction in his life. Do not live under the delusion that you cannot be radicalized in the same way, just like Brandon.
The shills who post here use tried-and-true psychological tactics which, regardless of whether you want them to or not, will influence you. The companies they work for have done statistical analysis of the 'staying power' of comments and threads, and are extremely well coordinated in their attempts to persuade you - they even create controlled opposition, that they might easily 'triumph' over. Even if you acknowledge that they exist, which is often portrayed as borderline 'lizard people' crazy to discredit you, they can still fuck with your head.
The groups of extremists, if there are currently any operating on here, will promise you a brotherhood and a common cause, but really are simply looking for another soldier in their ideological war. Our ancestors didn't fight the Nazis and the Communists because of their political beliefs or because the Jews hate white people; they fought them because these are political ideologies which provide justification for murder, the repression of civil liberties, and the mistreatment of other human beings not on the basis of their ideas, but on uncontrollable constants such as race, sex, and IQ. These groups can only succeed if they can divide us, if they can infiltrate us and influence our minds and force us to turn on our fellow man, and this is probably one of the number one places where they try to do that.
