Except that even then he can't fire him, nor I believe can sessions. It would have to be rosensteinberg or whatever his name is who took over the "investigation" after sessions recused himself. If rosensteinberg refused he would have to fire his way down through the justice dept until he reached the most senior person in the cgainbof command willing to fire him. I usually scoff at the "muh optics" thing but that would genuinely be a case of terrible optics. Trump isn't dumb enough to fall for that (I hope).
