Was it ever made clear which stand was stronger between The World and Star Platinum? DIO won the clash but aside from that Star Platinum dealt more damage to DIO than The World did to Jotaro.

Za Warudo is stronger simply because DIO is much more powerful than an ordinary human. Jotaro gets fucked constantly simply because he can only afford to stop time for like 2-5 seconds while DIO can afford to stop time for 7-9 seconds because of his physiology.
With that being said, Star Platinum is able to act freely of the user's will to an extent, such as catching a bullet less than 1cm from the user's head and stopping/starting the user's heart which saved Jotaro's ass on many occasions since SP was able to absorb blows that would've otherwise killed Jotaro w/o Star Platinum's involvement.
All in all, I'd say SP gets an edge, if only only because it's more adaptable.
